I haven't posted since I sold the '05 Tundra Limited Stepside. This Sequioa is awesome, worthy successor to the Tundra truck. Weird they only sell 13,000 of them each year, We liked the V8 4Runner but wanted something larger. Tundra with a shell was ok but SUV is better for us.

Reviews all said the Tahoe is the way to go. No, that was laughable after some simple research. Maybe for a mall crawler the Tahoe is the way to go, but for an offroad capable large SUV that ticks off all the boxes the Sequioa wins.

  • Has 4lo stock, Tahoe only has 4lo in Z71 trim
  • Has Torsen center diff in all 4WD trims
  • 9.5" stock ground clearance vs 8"
  • Huge amount of cargo capacity vs Tahoe and all the other large SUV's
  • Fuelly showed there is only 1.5mpg difference between Tahoe and Sequioa over the years

Reviewers complained about outdated this and that, all I care about is does it kickass or not. Sequioa meets the kickass criteria vs the competition. I don't care about hard plastics in an outdated interior, I care about all-around versatility and reliability.

Funny. Sold my '11 Tundra a few years ago when I needed a heavier truck for serious towing. I really missed that Tundra. Got a 2019 Sequoia last month and pretty much went through the same thought process and came up with the same reasons including rejecting the Tahoe.

Mods will be RCI front skidplate Engine Skid Plate | 07-Present Tundra – RCI Off Road (rcimetalworks.com) Fits a 2019 Sequioa same as a Tundra. Took a few deep breaths before hitting the order button, but really wanted the oil filter access and it extends to the trans crossmember so it covers the oilpan and front diff.

Timbren rear bumpstops Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System Timbren Vehicle Suspension TTORSEQ1 (etrailer.com) to stiffen the rear. Thought about airbags but these will do the job.

Covercraft Carhartt canvas seat covers and cargo mat. Carhartt SeatSaver Custom Seat Covers - Covercraft Carhartt Custom Cargo Area Liner - Covercraft

A 150W inverter Amazon.com: SUPERONE 150W Car Power Inverter DC 12V to 110V AC Car Converter, Dual USB Car Charger and 2 Socket Adapter: Automotive I would like to slap a 600W inverter in hooked directly to the battery, have done so on various Toyotas. Not all that compicated,

For the SAIP - Has there been problems with the 2015+ 5.7l? I know there was a change made 2014 to get the moisture out by cycling the pump at shutdown. I believe the same change was made to the Tacoma but 2015's still have the same AIP CEL's and limp mode.

Answering my own question, I will do the SAIP bypass. My friend Slyfox75 that makes sweet kits for earlier models doesn't have one for the 2019. He says Hewitt. I'm not gonna take a chance this crappy design won't fail sometime.

So are you saying your going to buy the bypass kit now just in case it fails? Each to his own I guess but dropping over $400 now just in case someday it might fail seems like a pretty expensive gamble.

I don't care about $400. That's nothing in the grand scheme, $400 is two BBQ's this summer hosting friends and family, six tanks of fuel. I'll pop it in right away and never worry about going into limp mode with the trailer hooked up in the middle of Utah on a dirt road 200 miles from any possible repair facility.

Some of the changes that were made recently should help but we don't think the problem is going to go away anytime soon. We have certainly been selling more for the 14' and newer vehicles lately but not sure how many of those are preventative or actual issues. I do know of at least a dozen or so 17'-20' that had an issue and there are always going to be those that fail outside of a MTBF curve. I do think some of the changes they have made like running the system at shutdown and adding pump heaters to drive off condensed moisture will help. The nice thing about putting a Gen-II kit on as prevention is that you should NEVER have an issue with it.

I did get the MHX-514 (Complete Kit) – Genuine Cooling Systems aux trans cooler kit. This '19 tows 6k lbs once per month every month of the year, and that's from Denver to Durango,CO. 500+ mile roundtrip over two 10k ft passes and never less than 5k ft elevation. Tough on the trans. $1k parts, $300 labor to install.

One more thing - if you folks hate the front diff 10mm Allen drain/fill plugs as much as I do here are the Lexus 14mm hex replacement plug part numbers. Direct swap, same washers.

Front diff 14mm hex drain plug Lexus PN 90341-24016.
Front diff 14mm hex fill plug Lexus PN 90341-18060.

Available at any Lexus dealer, $40.
