2010 5.7 DCLB 4X4 dilemma: I need tires now as my oem bridgestone passenger tires are completely shot! problem is cash is VERY VERY tight right now...

what I really want is to do a 3/1 leveling kit and get some 305/65/18 BFG's or Terra Graps on V-TECH off road wheels...problem is that will run me around 2k which I don't have right now.

Can I fit the 295-70-18's on the OEM styled steel wheels without the lift kit (temporarily?) or will it rub like crazy??

can anyone confirm if either the 275-70-18 OR 295-70-18 tire on the oem styled steel wheels will work before the 3/1 lift???? I would prefer the look of the 295's, but don't know if they will fit without the lift and will suck some more fuel and power from the tuck.

Thanks, I've read through all of those threads...and I think I'm more confused than when I started...

there is some very good info, but then people start throwing in variables like leveling kits, and bilstein 5100's (with 3 different height settings) and it's hard to tell what will fit what without this or that...

I plan on doing the 3/1 eventually...hopefully sooner than later

I'm pretty sure 275-70-18's fit, just not sure if 295-70-18's fit with OEM styled steel wheels (+60 offset) and no lift???? some say yes...others say you need a lift or offset wheel???

With a 295 tire and the +60 you will most likely rub the UCA or be so close to it that you'll worry.

Ah, I see what's up. The 295/70/18 is only a 11.77" wide tire. My 295/60/20 is a 12.36" wide tire. That half an inch makes a big difference with UCA clearance. You should be fine.

I've run 285/75R18 with no issue without lift on TRD wheels. I'm 99.9% certain the steel wheels have the same offset. See my pic gallery for photos.

I get about 10-12.5 in the city depending on my location and usage of right pedal.

With my brush guard I got about 15.5-16 freeway at 73-75. Without I was getting about 17-17.5 ay same speeds. Honestly it hurts but the cost between the 1 or so mpg is nominal when driving.
I'm currently getting 17.5 mixed highway/city with my 5.7. I would be ok losing 1-2 mpg for 34" tires, I just don't want to see it drop to 12-13mpg as some have suggested it will.....my truck is my daily commuter and I'm doing 500 miles/week. in the end I may be better off with 33" highway tires for ride and fuel efficiency...but damn.... I love the look of a leveled tundra with 34-35" tires....

I have the 275's on mine now, they are about 34.5 tall, and I get around the same you get. I avg about 15.5 town and 21 hiway.

Since money is tight, why not get some used stockers until you can easily afford to do it right? Or maybe until gas prices drop. It is not a popular answer but it works.

The not having enough money excuse to do something half fast is weak.
yeah I hear ya, I told myself when the stockers wear out I'll put some nice wheels and tires on and level it out...of course life had different plans for my money this year and now I am in desperate need of tires and don't want to spend the money on the stockers or I'll be locked into them till they wear out....I guess it's time to run up the credit card!

I do love the smooth ride of the highway tread and torque of the small size...I guess it's all a trade off.

the way things are going, if I wait for gas prices to come down...I'll be on to my next truck!

You are correct, the 295's were 34.5. I now have 275's, which are just over 33" tall. I have volant intake and dual flowmaster exhaust, maybe that helps. My hiway mileage didn't change much, but city dropped from the 255 days.
Avg mpg now is 15.7 city and 21.4 hiway last tank. 5.7 DC 4wd

275's...did you mean 295's? 275-70-18 should spec out at 33" 295-7-18 spec out at 34.5???

21 highway??? with 34.5's ???? is that 2WD? I get 17.5 with 32" tires babying it?

I ended up going with 275-70-18 Firestone transforce HT's. I am happy with the size and happy with the choice since I dropped 2mpg by going up to a 33 over the stock 32's. There is also a noticeable difference in torque...not drastic, but noticable..... I am now saving for wheels in a +30 offsett to get rid of the "tucked in" look. I am also going to do a 3/1 kit.

The +30 won't be much different than your stock +60, since 25mm is one inch. Should be just enough to allow for the tire and rim difference. I have that same size tire in a ten ply with +12 offset 9" wide wheels.

I faced the same dilemma as you when my stock tires wore out after 30,000 miles. I wanted to upgrade from my styled steel wheels, but didn't have the money at the time. I ended up finding a set of the TRD stock wheels and tires on craigslist for $700, which was cheaper than a new set of tires (granted, they are ragged trails), and was able to get upgraded wheels as well.

I really want to get some black wheels once I get the money, and had never seen the V-Tec offroads before. I really like the clean, simple look of them. It seems that a lot of black wheels I see around a way too flashy.

Does anyone on here have those wheels in 18"? I'm curious to hear some firsthand reviews. The price seems almost too good to be true since I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for, and these wheels are significantly cheaper than anything else similar I've looked at.
