I have a 2002 AC with 4wd and the 4.7. I have had it in and out of 4wd a lot lately (snowing a lot here in maine) This morning when I got in it and got on the road it was already in 4 high, when I got to the main road I hit the botton to take put in in 2 wd which it did but the 4wd light kept blinking. I tried backing up, circles, 4 low etc. it went to 4wd just fine but when I went to 2wd the light kept blinking even though it was obviously not in 4wd. I finally gave up and drove 15 minutes to my destination, I turned off the main road and put the truck in 4wd which it did just fine, when I parked I decided to give 2wd another try and walla it went in with no light. It now behaves just fine. So my question is what does the blinking light mean? Is there a part about to fail? I drive to a lot of remote locations where 4wd is an necessity so I would like to figure it out before it totally fails.

manual says it blinks when trying to go into 4wd during slipping tires.. doesn't say anythng about blinking when going the other way. i'd say you're in no danger of any failure, just some kinda brain fart in the indicator sensor circuit . If it repeats you might want to troubleshoot.

ive had that issue with a mitsubishi Montero sport once. it happened to me maybe twice.
I guess it happens once in a blue moon

the indicator light will flash if the 4Hi does not fully / properly engage or diengage. for disengagement issues stop moving, the keep your wheels straight and drive slowly at a constant speed that should diengage the 4wd. You may need to push the switch on and off again once you are moving to disengage. happens to me on an occasional basis when on hard pavement.

Drive in a straight line, go slow, and preferably down a slight incline. You want everyting in the drive line to be "loose", i.e., no binding and little or no torque. Soon as everything frees up, the 4wd should disengage.

i have heard that you have to let the vehicle
"relax" when going in and out of 4x4.
put into neutral and let off of the brake. then
push the button. happens to me going into 4bi if
i don't relax it. yspert

I have a blinking 4wd drive light on my 2004 toyota tundra limited. I used the 4wd a week ago but since then it just blinks. I checked my manual and it said to check the fuse: OK; check the center control panel button resistance: OK, check the actuator assembly: no noise when the button is pushed. I replaced the actuator and now I hear a noise/motion when the button is pushed but the light is still blinking. Im not sure if it engaging the axle or not. Im headed to the local dealer to ask some questions.
