i'm trying to find a 80's model toyota single cab 4x4 with the 22re motor in it right now!!! i figure a few hours on regular maintanence and some work on the transmission and transfer case and the thing will be practically brand new!!

also taking off the bed and shaving off a few inches of the frame behind the leaf springs, fabbing up a double tire carrier on a swing over the rear axle and having a truck box mount positioned where i can put the box where it should if the bed was still there...

should look really mean, and be very practical for trial riding... planning on a 4 inch lift, some front fender shaving, 33's and lower gears with a limited slip up front....

tell me what you think

sounds nice for that year of truck check over at YotaTech
When you say 80's are you looking for a solid axle? 85 and earlier or IFS 86 and newer?

The solid axle is bullet proof and we have tried them. The ride is stiffer but for an off road rig they rock. Here is a pic of the 1985 Extra Cab truck I talked my father in law into. 85 is the best of both worlds. Fuel injected and a solid axle. I would get this if I were you. Add some Marlin Springs front and rear Lockers and go for it.

He is right on! 85 is the best year of any Toyota truck to start an off road build up from. I don't know how much you are planning on spending but if the budget allows I would add a Marlin Crawler T-case (several different to combo's to choose from) and some type of birfield replacement ie. Longfield, Newfield, Marfrield, ect. With that added to the springs and lockers you will be able to dominate trails like the Rubicon.
