 Driving down the freeway I exited and as I turned the corner it seemed my tranny failed and the engine raced. I pulled over and put the car in park. It started to roll down the hill like the parking poll failed. i set the handbrake. my engine was still running. I turned it off and checked the tranny fluid. no bad color or smell and proper level. I tried to start the car and the starter spun like it wasn't engaging the flywheel. I had no previous noise or indication of trouble. with the car jacked up I was able to spin the wheels and both of the shafts turned normally with no grinding or binding noise. I took a wrench and turned over the crank pully and it seemed to be fine, no noise or grinding. I removed the starter and it operated ok. I looked at the flywheel and the teeth were there on the pinion gear where the starter attaches. I have rebuilt engines and automatic transmissions and worked on 100's of cars but cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong..I APPRECIATE ANY SUGGESTIONS
