Hey,

My wife has a 2004 Camry, 150K miles. The CEL came on and I pulled the P2238 code, which has a TSB attached (replace sensor and update ECU). I'm past the warranty, so I brought it to an independent Toyota shop (not dealer). They wanted $420 to replace sensor and update ECU.

My question: if I just replace the sensor with out updating the ECU is that a problem?

What is involved with updating the ECU, any idea what a dealer would charge for just an ECU update?

Thanks.

I dealer would or should generally charge 1hr of shop time, flat rate. Most shops in our area are about $90 per hour.
