The air flow selector dial in my truck (manual HVAC) has 9 positions including 5 "standard" positions and 4 intermediate. What happens when one of the intermediate positions is selected?

I would love to know as well. The manual doesn't say anything about it, my dealer looked me right in the eye and said he really didn't know and I haven't noticed much difference between them. I usually leave it on the upper vents or the upper and feet vents for ac, and feet and defroster vents for heat.

it blends from each position it's in between of.
Exactly!:tu:
If you rotate the switch from straight up (100% floor) to the left you get:
1 click - 75% floor - 25% dash (intermediate)
2 clicks - 50% floor - 50% dash (marked)
3 clicks - 25% floor - 75% dash (intermediate)
4 clicks - 100% dash (marked)
