rs3200 upgrade

Hi,
I got the rs3200 upgrade off e bay make sure you get the 2003 model, approx $130.00 The install was pretty easy. I would recommend it since the alarm is pre built in and all you need is the upgrade kit to get it working. The dealer tried to sell me the exact same thing for $400 +.

I have a question then...I have a 2003 Tundra w/ keyless entry, what would the rs3200 upgrade do for me. What exactly is the upgrade?

My keyless entry system is tied into making the horn sound and flashing the lights when I open a door. There is also a shock sensor on the truck...when I close my tailgate too hard it honks like 4 times.

Is this the upgrade you are talking about?

Thanks for your help.

rs3200

Hi Lex,
Sounds like you have the standard keyless entry. The rs3200 upgrade is simply the microphone for broken glass and the LCD light. The alarm functions (alarm, starter kill, flashing lights, motion sensor, etc...)are already pre installed, but it does not work without the upgrade (there is a thread around here somewhere that explains it pretty well. search for rs3200 alarm) I also have a stock keyless entry Tundra. (Lights flashed when I opened or locked the doors) The upgrade made it a full functioning alarm. Hope this helps

Look in the Garage for writeups that I did. If you don't care about the glass breakage sensor (GBS) then you can wire up an LED and unplug the 3P connector (instructions are also in the Garage and were posted by another member) and activate the alarm for free, as long as you already have factory keyless entry. All the RS3200 upgrade gives you is a module that pops into the dash next to the dimmer switch and has the LED and GBS microphone in it. So it's up to you as to whether you want to pay about $135 for a microphone for the GBS.

If you want to do the full upgrade (including LED and glass breakage sensor), you can do it yourself for $5 (instead of paying $120 to $130 for the factory kit). Just look in the Club Garage section under The Mod Shop forum for "HOW-TO: Upgrade to RS3200Plus for $5" This mod assumes you already have keyless entry and is written for a 2003 Tundra.

Does anyone know if you can activate the alarm without adding the GBS or an LED? I might want the alarm but don't want to send the time installing the light or microphone if the alarm will work without them.
The alarm should work for door openings without the LED or microphone, but the glass break sensor will not work without the microphone.

Thanks for the info. I gather the LED is just to tell you the alarm is set? If I lock the doors either with the key or with the remote, the alarm becomes active in 30 seconds correct? If so, the only risk I run by not installing the LED is if I were to open the door manually by reaching in through the window (as described in the testing procedure after activating the alarm) the alarm will sound. Otherwise, if I unlock the door with the key or the remote the alarm will be deactivated?

Sorry for all the stupid questions but I have never had an alarm on my vehicles, I have always had LoJack installed (including my '03 Tundra) and have never had the horns and lights package put installed because I figured I would forget to turn it off when I get in the truck. But if the system is only activated when you lock the doors and automatically de-activates when you unlock the doors with the key or the remote then maybe I will do the mod as described.

I understand about the 3P connector removal to get the system activated.

In reading all the information attached to the Garage postings, it sounds like the passive alarm is not activated from the factory so if I leave my truck in the garage overnight the alarm will not set unless I have locked the doors, is that correct? What I am trying to avoid is setting off the alarm at 5:30 and waking up the neighborhood.

I have an 02 (RS3000) that I just did the upgrade to. Before you buy the upgrade kit anywhere, check to see what parts you would need to upgrade the RS3200 cause somebody posted the part numbers (on another thread) for the RS3000 and I was able to get both the GBS Unit & Status Monitor from Carson's for $17.00 each or $34.00 w/shipping instead of the upgrade kit for something like $200.00. Got all the info I needed from the garage about installing and programming. So far everything works great.

I did the upgrade and then tried to follow the directions posted on this board to add a new remote to my Tundra alarm system but have had no luck. I follow the sequence of putting the key in the ignition and opening and closing the door etc. but all I get is a single lock/unlock from the truck, not the light flash and beep that would tell me the sequence is successful and ready to accept a new remote signal.

Has anyone had any success with this or any programing changes to the RS 3200? Am I doing something wrong?
