I wanted to be able to turn off my DRL's but also liked the fact that i didn't have to worry about leaving the lights on when i left my truck. So i wanted to be able to disable and then enable with a flick of a switch from inside the cab. so i went to my local radio shack and pick up some standard automotive 12 volt relays and a switch and put the relays on the low beam wire behind each headlight and then ran the 12 volt switch wire in the cab. now i can turn off my low beams while driving.

here is the relay i bought

Here is the switch mounted on the fuse panel cover

Remove the head light by removing the plastic screw clip thingy just above the head light

Then pry out the parking light gently, by putting the screw driver there you wont scratch the paint and i found to be the easiest spot.

Then remove the headlight by removing the 2 nuts on either side and the black screw on top.

Then cut the power wire for the low beam light, which was the blue wire on the passenger side and the green wire on the driver side and run the switched 12 volt wire and a ground wire. then add female terminals.

Then add the relay according to the wire diagram.

now you can put the headlight back together and do the other side the same way. on the switched 12 volt wire and ground i just ran it to one light first and then jumped them to the second light.

Now the headlights are on

and now they are off

This project took me about a little over an hour to do and about 15 bucks in parts.

right now i have it to where i can switch on and off the low beams to where before the low beams were on no matter what. so now i can have the parking and running lights on with or without the fog lights using the factory switches or everything off.

just the low beams will be affected by the switch that i put in the cab so when it is on it would be normal factory day time running lights but when off it would be like any other car.

i don't see any reason why you couldn't just cut the wires where i cut them then add wires to your fog lights so they are always on and then take the wires to turn on your fog lights and run them to your low beams. the white wire on the top of the headlight harness was the ground wire if you want to go that route. if you do this let me know how you like this setup.

On my 2005 DC, I just unpluged the DRL's. Who needs them. I really, really dislike DRL's, who wants to drive around with lights on in the daytime? There are plenty of studies to show that they serve no purpose, and actually distract from the safety intent of full time lights on motorcycles.

pretty good idea. I disabled my drls by rotating the switch located on the break pedal, so they never come on. With the price of these bulbs, I like it that way. The only down side for me, is that the ebrake light is always on. What I would like now, is to be able to control my foglights while the headlights are off. ???

plus with DRLs, you cant park somewhere at night with the truck on (A/c or heat) to get down.... everyone will see you with lights on even back in the woods haha
