Anybody else think the 07 Tundra is Ugly?

I was looking at more of the pics of the new 07's at the dealer last week and found it very dissappointing. To me, it looks like a Dodge and a Ford jammed together. It just seems so un-Toyota-like to be un-original in styling.

This is not the opinion of someone who bought their Tundra and then afterewards found out about the new style and now has regrets. I looked at some early leaked photos of the 07 and I bought my 06 knowing what the one would be like. I bought a new truck early so I could get an "old" body style.

I like the look of the '07. It's the '06 Tacoma that doesn't quite make it. The Tundra took that look a step further, and got it just right. IMHO.

IMHO, adapting to the look of the '07 model's exterior lines is something that will just take a little time. Seeing it "in the wild" and along side other trucks in the field -- Dodge Ram, Chevy Silverado, Ford F-150, and Nissan Titan -- the subtle differences will begin to stand out that will truly tell whether or not Toyota did something "special" or if they have fallen victim to focus group design influences.

Same thing goes for the interior; although, here I'm a bit more skeptical. I thought Toyota had the dash layout right with the '89 - '96 model year pickups and has been going away from that even since. The '07 dash and interior is well off the reservation for my tastes -- not as bad as the Honda Ridgeline, but not great. Mind you, I'm not a big fan of the "pod" in my '06 Tundra's dash either; I think my '02 Suburban's dash layout is better aesthetically, ergonomically, and perhaps even with regard to materials. However, the '07 Suburans have also gone off the deep end with regard to dash styling -- more along the lines of it's higher end car designs with all of the wood grain accents, but with lots of sharp edges and boxy features.

As for the Tundra design, what has always appealed to me is its scale. I don't want or need another full-size truck, but the Tacoma is a bit too intimate for four adults. The Tundra's sizing hits the sweet spot: easy fit in the garage, nearly as much useable space as the Suburban's front two passenger areas, and a very simple, clean design (well, aside from the RoboCop grill treatment).

So, at least for me, I'll hold my final assessment of the '07 until I become accustomed to seeing them. I think I'm still struggling with the scale -- bigness if you will -- than anything else... and some shared similarities with the other big trucks.

I saw the truck at the Internation Auto Show last weekend. I've never liked it to begin with, and seeing it in person really stepped that up for me. It's just butt ugly, not Jessica Simpson butt, like hairy fat old man butt:p
To top it off, the display was close to the new Chevy truck's, which are ugly as well. And, they had a long bed on display. Just made it look worse. I was surprised at the "unfinished" look too. You could see welded seams underneath, it had steel wheels with tiny tires. All of the other manufacturer's had their best looking vehicles on display, flashy wheels etc. The Tundra was just plain.
Have some pics, but not sure if I can post them, is the Dcab considered the Crewcab???:D

I think it looks a lot better than a titan and the dodges.... its somewhat plain but doesnt look bad... i think it looks better than the current tundra and i like the pics that ive seen especially when compared to the original pics of the new silverado which looks wayyy better in person. Imagine it with aftermarket products and it will look 10x better.... a lift, bigger tires, rims, grill, aftermarket bumper and headlights, supercharger, debadged and you got yourself and great looking truck.... anyways its toyota when have they ever really had a really good stock looking truck??

I think it's fugly. I haven't seen one in person yet though. Personally I think Toyota's styling department has always been one of the worst in the industry. Their trucks have usually been an exception though.

I think it looks terrible, felt the same way about the new tacos. The tacos at least are starting to grow on me. I agree with previous posts that seeing it "in the field" will probably make a difference. I will admit the one they had at SEMA with the lift, tires, etc looked pretty good.

However, I don't think I should have to spend an additional $5000 - $6000 to make a truck look good. Not mention the fact that they will not be offering any incentives on these trucks when they come out. As for when has toyota had good looking stock trucks, how about the current DC Tundra, best looking truck out there. All it needs are maybe some bigger tires and a small front end lift, once again maybe, it still a nice stock truck. The 95-04 4X4 tacos looked pretty nice stock as well.

Before I bought my 06 DC 4WD w/ TRD, some of the guys in the service dept. were telling me about the new 07 and how it had a bigger engine, more towing, etc. If I needed a truck that I could not get into my garage because my business required said truck, I would own a Duramax 2500 HD. As it is, I feel the current model Tundra is perfectly sized. Decent (stress decent not good) for hauling, but also great on the road and good off the road.

I knew that the truck would take a different direction after seeing the concept truck, but the concept truck looked pretty good. This one, unfortunately, does not.

I definitely like my 2006 Double cab much better, has a much stouter look than the new one, the new 07 looks too much like a dodge with the raised grill. I was definitely not impressed with the smaller rear doors like the fullsize ones that I have on my double-cab. mechanically I think it's good, don't know if everyone will bite on the dodge look design and curves.

I think it is ugly and I really think the current SIZE truck is perfect.
They overdid the size, and overdid the "style" too.
In fact, if my 06 Tundra got totalled today, I would replace it with another 06. If new trucks weren't available, I'd get a used 06 or earlier Tundra. If I had to replace it with a new truck, I would wait on the Tacoma double cab to come out with a V8. That is how much I don't like the new Tundra.

I remember way back when the T100 came out I laughed my arse off. Then the Tundra came along and I still was like it's better but still not great looking. It grew on me a little bit in the begining of 01, but still my opinion was "there are way better looking trucks out there then the Tundra". Shortly after I test drove a Tundra, that's all it took start the paper work!

The 07 is not that great looking either, but I know a breif test drive would prompt me to say again, start the paper work! But I love my 01 to much to trade, something bad would have to happen to it before I get a new one. 102k and still rolling smooth.

Like bbfirebird said....Its downright FUGLY!!!!
Why did they take the look of a midsize truck - its like downgrading. The Tundra designers must have been dickin off and just stole the design of the Tacoma team at the last minute. I'm so glad I got the last of the current Tundra design...made on 11/8/06...So SWEET!

Well, I disagree with the haters! The new Tundra is one seriously bad-*** looking rig. Big, bold, agressive styling and the muscle to back it up.

The current Tundra is nice looking...but maybe "nice" needed some attitude and muscle? The current Tundra is soft looking and always a bit undersized when I see one at a stop light next to an American full-size truck. The current Tundra always just looked like an F150's weak little brother. Not a bad looking truck...maybe sort of the Clay Aiken of the truck world.

I am looking forward to taking home one the new, big, beautiful Tundras next year!

Oh, you mean the bastard child of a Titan and a Dodge? Yeah, it is horribly ugly. I mean really, they took all the bad styling cues from both the titan and the dodge ram and put them all together in one ugly truck.
In regards to the question someone asked earlier, the only vehicle that is out now that I have said I did not like at first and now do, is the '05 Tacoma and I still think they look poor without a lift and 33's.

I like it, but I would change TWO things.... I would tone the grille down.... way too big. Maybe 1/2 that size would be OK. Also, on the DC model, I would have had the rear window go back a little more.... looks like they cut it off short.

That's where they're built...

I know...I was being a smart a$$ since M1shooter was making the point that Tundras are built in the USA after I commented on Tundras sitting next to American trucks.

I thought it was obvious that even though the Tundras are built here, they are still a Japanese company.

By the way Jasbus...your Tundra is SICK! I love the wheels and tires! I plan on putting something similar on my 07 black Tundra when I get it.

So I guess I'm getting old but it looks like the word "sick" is being hijacked and turned into a bass-ackwards meaning. If sick is good, then next time I get a stomach virus I'll come to your place to spread the goodness on your floor.
Maybe he just doesn't like my truck:eek: :D

Thanks. Well, maybe when you get your 07, and dress it up, you can change my mind on the looks of the truck. I hope so. Hate to hate the truck before it even comes out! One thing we all have to look forward to, at least Toyota(and most overseas automakers) are just the opposite of the big 3. They change out body styles every 5 years or so. I mean, how long did we have to look at that butt ugly last gen Camaro?? 12 years, more? geez. Even if some of us don't care for it, we don't have a super long wait for the next generation Tundra...
