auto dimming mirror

I am going to buy the dimming mirror with the compass.

Is the plug in for the mirror "pre wired" in the console? And if it is, do the 4 screws that you see drop the console down for installation?

Finally, does the mirror come with instructions on how to install.

Thanks.

The plug is pre-wired.

You do drop the console with the 4 Torx-head screws.

Other than that i'ts one setscrew on the mirror glass mount.

Almost doesn't need instructions but yes.

Thanks for the info.
I just installed mine today (very easy to do) took be about 20 minutes. I ordered mine from TRD Toyota/Scion Parts Accessories from Sparks Toyota/Scion for $186 + shipping and yes it did come with detailed instructions. My dealer quoted be $265 without installation.
I just pulled my console down to peek inside I saw a square white plug sitting in there near the front of the head liner by the windshield. I assume this is the prewired plug for the mirror. Also I noticed a tiny sqauare cut out on the head liner I assume this is where you feed the wire through? I still can't see using the same mount as the standard mirror because the pics of the auto dim mirror make it look like it's mounted higher? I figure that must be a molded cover to hide the wire on the deluxe mirror?

Sorry to ask a million questions, but I'm about to order this mirror and just want to make sure it's that simple of an install.

Thanks ahead of time for any help............:tu:
It is that simple and your perceptions are correct and right on. You are seeing a telescoping plastic cover that hides the wire going up toward that pass-though cutout on the forward edge of the headliner. The factory mount itself stays bonded to the windshield ready for you to slip on the new mirror with set screw.

If you've dropped the console you've already practiced 1/4 of the job.

If you have JBL sound you'll still get a little blur with either mirror when the bass is turned up :D.
i hope my install goes that easy. the dealer wants $132 to install!!!!
I ordered the mirror via the website posted. Thanks for the PM's and info JJ, once the mirror is in I'll repost and let ya know if I pinched any fingers LOL! :D
I went ahead and also ordered that mirror for my 07.. I have the Backup Camera in the head console so I will have to see how that works with this mirror. Oh well, should show up next week some time and I hope it goes easy on the install.
Newbie, '07 Tundra SR5, I am trying to install auto rearview mirror; I've removed the four (4) torx screws but can't seem to be able to remove the console. It seems to be hanging where the camera is installed. I don't see anything holding it. How hard do I have to pull on the console. Is there something else I shd remove? Tks

You should also have to pull the cover off the dome light at the rear of the overhead console. Then there are two small tabs that need to be bent in and under those are 2 more torx screws. Then the console will slide back about an inch so you can pull the console down. I don't have the back-up camera so not sure if that is hanging anything up but I wouldn't think so..
Is this mirror the one with homelink? If so is that all you need, is the mirror you mentioned to have it all (compass, auto dim, and homelink) ?

Yes, the auto-dimming mirror has a compass and homelink.
Thanks, finally got it. Would have been easier if I had read your post earlier. Saw those tabs; didn't know what they were, so left them alone. Thanks

Installed my auto dimming mirror yesterday. The port installed my bluetooth and spliced in to the mirror wires (stupid) for power. I took them off and sliced in on the main power to the dome lights. With some instruction help (thanks thread friend) it works great and took about 1.5 hrs to install with all the corrections. I would guess about 45 minuites with the simple install. Thanks again for all the tips from the thread!!!!:ts:

Just one more reason I don't want the port guys fooling around with my new truck, before it becomes my new truck!

Is the plug for the mirror the same one I would use if I wanted to add a back-up monitor? I hope I can add both eventually.

My understanding is that if you get the factory installed mirror (ECAT -Multifunction Autodimming Rearview Mirror w/ Compass and HomeLink Universal Transceiver - $285) then you can not use the backup camera monitor.

If you want to use the backup camera monitor and want a review mirror upgrade you have to get the other one (CM50 - Self Dimming Mirror w/Homelink -$345 )

I added both items after the sale. Toyota OEM backup camera with overhead monitor and Toyota OEM mirror with compass etc... I see no difference in mirrors from factory compass mirror.
