Hi all,

I've read a great deal of posts about the Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks and I'm a little confused. I have a 2006 DBL Cab 4X4 and I am planning on ordering the 5100 adjustables and going with a 2" lift to level out the ride and provide a little more clearance. ARE THE STOCK SPRINGS OK or do I need to go with a stiffer spring? If I need a stiffer spring, does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, I read that I may need specific aligment settings when I'm done and I remember seeing the numbers in a thread, but I can't find them now. Is this the case, and does anyone have the numbers they can give to me?

you're just going to install the 5100s up front by themselves, correct?
Cuz the 5100s should give you lift by themselves, around 1.75" on the 3rd notch, 2.5" on the top notch. Not good to double stack different lifts. (ie a 2" spacer lift on top of 5100's set on anything but the bottom notch. And even that is pointless and redundant.)
If you meant the 5100's up front, with a 2" some-kind of lift in the rear, then yup, yer good to go.

You can use the stock springs on the 5100's for a 2" front lift. Just put the clip on the shock in the right spot, 2nd from top I think for 2". I just did this yesterday on an 06 double cab.

Ya stock springs will work or you could order some replacements from wheelers or toytec. I think they have eichibachs or whatever for like 90 a piece. You can get them a little stiffer than stock

Thanks for the help! To clarify, I am planning on installing the adjustable 5100s up front by themselves with no other lift accessories. I basically want to level the ride and add a bit more clearance. If I understand what I've read, I won't have to worry about the CV boots wearing unnessasarily with this set up. My '06 DC is a daily driver so I can't afford to have suspension problems down the road.

Also, thank you for the alignment specs.

May I suggest spending an extra $25 or so and install the Revtek Diff Drop from Wheeler's Offroad.

Here's mine with 5100's on the middle notch. Rear is a wheelers AAL. Also large hose clamps over stock clamps works well.

I sent a email to wheelers they say that the ome coils are for a tacoma and they are not ment for a tundra and can not promise anything if i buy them.. So what is everyone using then_ I wanted to order the OME coils and build up the billies so I would be down for a min amount of time...

I use the 886 OME coils. They will fit a tundra but they won't confirm or deny that.. Just buy the strut isolator rubber boot from a 05+ taco to build the struts up. You can use 886s, 885s, 884s.

If you have spacers on the front already, remove those and just go with the 5100s. DO NOT use both

kinda new to lifts/suspension etc

what does a diff drop do and will i need to do this as well to mine?

While I am here....no reason to start a new thread....but I had the 5100's put on...It is on the 4th notch. I was told by the shop that did it that the RevTek drop kit looks to potentially make the drive shaft hit the housing or something to that.....is that the case at all? I do have grease slinging, so I guess I will do the hose clamp thing also. I do have Wheel spacers coming as I have the deep 6 and now hitting control arms also. I am considering dropping it to the 3rd and install the RevTek still. I guess my question is....has anyone had issue with the drop kit? What would some of you do? Keep it on the 4th notch and just do the drop kit and spacers? They are the spidertraxx....not the crappy ones

When you say you have a 3" leveling kit, that sounds more like a lift kit , but I don't know a whole lot about lift kits, so I'll defer to the more knowledgeable on that subject. I know about the 5100s because I have them on mine. I've also read other posts on here that say the spring spacer leveling kits aren't recommended and that if you intend to use the 5100s, get rid of the spacers if you have them

As far as the diff drop, that is recommended whenever you level the truck because when you raise the front, it drops the lower control arms which steepens the angle on the CV shaft. This causes the inner CV boot to flex more and it will start to sling the grease out of the joint. The diff drop is just a couple 1" spacers and longer bolts and is very easy to put in (I put one on mine when I did the 5100 install) Also, search on here for the CV boot mod and do that as well (just a couple of hose clamps to replace the junk clamps that are on the boots from the factory)

Is your truck 4x4? If so then I would definitely put the diff drop on.

Good point. I never thought to ask if it was 4WD. If your truck is 2 wheel drive, you wouldn't need the diff drop.
