I have an 03 Corolla and the transmission will not go into gear without pressing the small button on the panel and the brake lights are not working. A mechanic told me iits something called the brake light switch. Has anyone else ever had this problem??

It could be the switch or maybe just a fuse. I would check the fuses first.
