the only thing ive found now, is that its hard to judge distance with the hitch....which is why i wanted it...if its up in the stock location u get a birds eye type of view that shows distance better.....but i still like mine for now....if i come across one of the rostra ones that mounts in the handle cheap ill change but for now its fine. cant beat the price though.
Yeah, that's the downside of these fisheye lenses. Mounted there, you are really close to the hitch, so the barrel distortion (i think thats what they call it) is pretty pronounced.

BUT, it give a great field of view, works even in low light, color monitor (like that really matters, but I'll take it!), easy install, unbelievable value and you'll soon be able to judge the hitch just fine.

I mean, a hundred bucks??? For a factory look in the cab? You can barely buy one of those nasty cheapo wireless backup cameras for that.

Now I gotta think about those DVD headrest things. Only thing is the inside of my cab is grey cloth. but they seem to have all sorts on line.

im getting used to mine..the only thing is it does get pretty wet with kickup somehow when driving in the rain and then its kinda hard to see out of but ive seen lots of OEM cameras with that issue too haha. need tiny wiper on it. :)

i have gotten used to mine now i think...the backup sensors i added when i first got it help alot to help judge distance. i also have one of those plug in backup light things that plugs into the trailer plug under the bumper so i have no issues in low light at all. but its got the best field of view as u said...i can see dam near anything for a long long way. plus when i hook the boat up i can look at it in the monitor and think "my what a huge boat i have" haha. but yeah, for the price...cant beat it. glad i stumbled on it. he has a bunch so anyone else wanting one go for it.

oh and PS my neighbor has the factory one in his rear view mirror but is getting one of these and mounting the camera inside by the headliner so he can keep an eye on his triplets when driving. gonna just wire the hot to a switch. now that is one helll of an idea...he has the backup cam in the mirror for when he needs it but can have the overhead monitor on to watch the babies.

nomo, super easy. the monitor plugs into the factory plug in the overhead...the camera mounts wherever u want it and the hardest part is running the video cable into teh cab but thats not hard at all really....

Awesome deal man. How hard is it to wire in the backup monitor and camera? Looks very sharp. I got the same bull bar on ebay, easy install and looks good.
Very easy. As 07DCWhiteSR5 said, the hardest part is getting the video cable from the monitor to the camera. Basically the transition from 'inside the cab' to 'outside the cab'. Other than that, it's really a cakewalk.

And when mounting the camera, just be aware of how the tailgate moves. Otherwise you might be tempted to put it in the space between the 'gate and the camera. I nearly did until I thought 'Why didn't 07DC put HIS there? He musta had a reason.... Let me just do a test open of the tailgate.....'

Its a fabulous mod for the money.

I wonder if you can plug the backup cam to my double din player. It has input for backup cam already so I would just have to run cables to cam and plug it into dvd player? So I wouldnt have to install extra screen
if u already have a screen or monitor then u can get a camera very cheaply on ebay...and a much better cam..infrared too.

well these images are quite good IMO. but thats on a small screen. not sure on the larger ones. but i will say the low light operation can be better for your situation if u went with a better camera. these are really just an inexpensive universal camera...the main reason we are going it this way is for the factory looking monitor w/o high cost.

Awesome fine OP! And thanks for sharing. I was checking out the TS classified and noticed your comment about these on ebay, but couldn't find it, then I stumbled onto this thread. I just ordered the monitor and camera set up...and yeah, I think $100 is the lowest they'll go; I started at $50, no go until I got to $100.

I'm going to try and install a power switch or button that will allow me to use it when not in reverse...won't be here for at least another week, so I'll have time to do some research on tapping into a power source for the monitor.

Thanks again man!

shoudl not be hard at all....if i remembr correctly this monitor has the hard wiring pigtails on it too..for trucks without the factory overhead plug. just tap into the mirror wiring up there since its hot any time the truck is on....and put a switch on it. should be ez enuf. but for the price almost anything can be done with it haha.

Hey Mr. Fife....I've got quick question. I have an '08 Sequoia with the DVD entertainment system and 4 pairs of the OEM wireless headphones. Might you have any idea if the OEM headphones are compatible with this headrest DVD player? Also, who was the seller that you bought them. Seems like there are tons of 'em on eBay, and if you were happy with the purchase, I figure, why not give that seller the biz?...'specially if he's in Austin, TX, versus Hong Kong. Cheers, TJ

Let's get it on! LOL...Damn it, now you're going to check my spelling on everything, not, I mean knot.

I got mine installed the other day and for the price I'm happy with it. I'll need to modify the screen somehow since it was ostensibly designed for a short person that sits really close to the steering wheel. It's like looking through polarized sunglasses from my normal sitting position, so I have to lean forward to get a clear view. I'm going to figure out a way to tilt the screen up tomorrow.

Also, need to find a better spot for the camera. Right now I mounted it on the license plate just below the frame because I want to keep my frame. I don't like it there though, sticks out too much and I want it more flush, but still want to see the bumper edge. I might try to modify the tailgate handle.

For the price, these are very minor issues to me. Taking the day off work tomorrow so the wifey doesn't see me working on the truck again.
