For those of you who have a bull bar or a front grill/bumper guard, can you tell me if you had to remove your tow hook and loop? While doing research on them, I do see that some involve removing them...if they aren't there any more what do you hook your straps to if you need a pull?

With my Jaos Bullbar I did not have to remove the hook its still there. The bullbar mounted to the same holes that the hook used, so the mounting bracked went in first then the hook.

Had to remove mine to mount the Westin Bull Bar.

So if you ever needed a pull from the front there would be no place to hook the straps to?

I really like the looks of the Westin's but if I go wheeling and get stuck, I would want some place to hook the straps to.

THE WESTIN COMES WITH A NEW SET OF HOOKS...BUT YES, THE OEM HOOKS WILL BE REMOVED BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE THE BULL BAR GETS MOUNTED TO...

I didn't get a new set of hooks with mine. Maybe that's a new thing they do now (I'm going to call Westin and find out).

For now....If I get stuck, I'll strap to the grille, I don't like it anyway. :clown:

My wife really likes the looks of those BullBars, but I'm kinda on the fence.
Click on the link to a front view of my truck and let me know your thoughts. If a black one to match the nerf bars would be good , or chrome, or just leave it alone.

I didn't get new tow hooks either. Let me know what Westin tells you on this.

The ARB Sahara does not use the attatchment points that are used by the tow hook or the tie down point on the opposite side. The ARB has two attatchment points built into the bar. I use a removable clevis on mine, depending on which side I may need to use.

When I installed my grille guard, the tow hooks had to be removed, but the bolts were long enough to bolt them back on. Basically, the grille guard bolts in between the grille guard and the frame.

Do you have a pic of the WAAG grill guard on your truck? And are you happy with it? Not trying to hijack the thread...if anything a free bump :D
I should have pics posted by weeks end.

I am happy with the looks and since I live in a congested area, I wanted protection for the front bumper. Sure enough I was involved in a bumper bump a few weeks ago and the guard absorbed the entire impact. Based on the damage to the other car, had I not had the guard, I am certain that I would have had expensive damage to the front bumper and fog light assembly. The damage to guard is hardly noticable.

I installed my similar to hannaman.

A bonus is the aggressive look seems to clear my path of slow moving compact cars on the freeway.

Just got off the phone with the folks at Westin. They told me there was no hook or way to hook to the bracket that the bull bar attaches to. :td: There is a cutout on the bracket between where it attaches to the frame and where the bull bar attaches. The rep told me not to attach to that point, as the bracket would break or bend if you put a load on it.

Isturbointeg, is there anyway you could post a picture here of what you are referring to? You've definitely peaked my interest as well as some other folks. If you've got some sort of different bracket, I want one as well.

Thanks.

Cool, so it looks like you don't have to remove the hooks to install a Jaos. Thanks!

That is a major bummer if after installing the Westin, you no longer have a place to hook up a tow strap in the front of the truck.

I did not have to remove the tow hooks to install my WAAG Grill Guard.
Thats good to know cause I really like the looks of the Waag. I'm thinking of getting the rear bumper guard as well.

So it looks like the ARB, Waag, and Jaos do not require the removal of the hooks, and the newer Westins are shipping with replacement hooks.

Interesting.

Sorry for the individual quote/replies but for some reason I can't do multiple quote replies. The button doesn't work for some reason.

On another note, in the same topic, does adding a front brush guard or bull bar affect the deployment of the airbags...if you guys think I should start a new thread, let me know.

Also, I'm thinking that adding a brush guard or bull bar may affect the truck in a crash where the front end won't crumple to absorb the impact. I know this is true with the full on bumper replacments but how about with just the brush guard or bull bar.

No, they are inertia sensors.
It all depends on how hard you hit.

A 3-sensor type airbag system is used in which the detection of deceleration
during a collision as well as control of the airbag system is accomplished by
the airbag sensor assembly and front airbag sensor.

get the randy ellis designs light bar for the front. I have it, you keep the tow hooks, you can put 3 - 8" kc daylighter lights or whatever you want to, costs zero ground clearance, sturdy as hell. I just came back from baja where it took a real beating, and in the middle of the night bouncing down baja's worst roads the lights stayed completly still. Definately gets my 2thumbs up.
