Hi there tundra solutions community, Im new to the world of Toyota i have been a Jeep guy for some time, I thought I needed to try out a tundra. I am looking at a 2000 tundra trd with 142000 miles for right around 7500. I have heard Toyota is the king of reliability but is this a deal or should I find something with lower miles. it wont be a dd and i will be doing a few things such as coil-overs, uca's, wheels and tires, but it will be driven a fair amount. thanks for your help, I look forward to lots of time spent on here to get the "learnin" I need.

mileage isnt a factor so much as maintenance. If everything has been kept up to date, it should run 300k easy with no unscheduled maintenance. talk to the members here who have 200k+ plus on theirs and ask them what they have had to do to keep theirs running. I bet it's minimal or could have been avoided in some way. Also, go browse your local classifieds and see how many f150s and silverados out there with this kinda mileage; I bet there are far less even though they are higher volume trucks.

Where you are, rust shouldnt be a big issue but it's something to be aware of. Mine had the entire frame, brake lines, leaf springs, LCAs and other various parts replaced under a recall and my rear differential housing just rusted through and I had to get a whole new axle. But other than that, I have just over 100k with no issues that werent caused by me or by rust

location imo plays a fair amount in the price of a used vehicle. in my area my 01 wiht 120000 blue booked for 8k privat party. so for your 2000 with 145000 i wouldnt say its a bad price but wouldnt say its a good price either. id offer 6500-7000 for it. also make sure the timing belt has been done. i love my truck. 01 curently 178000 miles no leaks, no drips, great power. the only complaint i have about my truck is the lack of performance aftermarket. you basic options are headers, electric fan mod and gears, and custom turbo for performance. basically what im saying would i go back and buy my truck again in 08 120000 miles on it hell freakng yea. problems i have had o2 sensors like everyone else, timing belt live everyone else, and i did have my starter go out.

Problems with 2000 Tundras are front rotors warping causing shimmy when braking, exhaust manifold cracks causing clicking when cold, starter contact burning causing the infamous click of death, ignitor coil failures, and frame rust in northern climates. The frame is covered by a recall. Other jobs not expensive if you do yourself. Concur depends on maintenance. If unsure you'll want to change your timing belt as this could be a catastrophic failure.
