Got the 2002 TUNDY 2WD ...
Does the Performance Chip really increase MPG & work properly?
Are there any drawbacks to the chip?
Does the chip effect the overdrive?

I'm getting 16-18 MPG in town
& recently got 21 and change on the big road
I was impressed to get to 21 MPG with the overdrive.

What, a Unichip? Yeah, it helps a little, but mostly it's an improvement in WOT performance. Get long tube headers, get mufflers from Keith, an underdrive pulley, and electric fans...you'll see an improvement. The chip is to manage all the mods, make sure they've an idea what you've done to the truck, since there are different maps available. One of the members spent quite a bit of time on dyno runs to get various combinations mapped...exhaust, headers, intake, etc...

The Unichip is a good way to manage the supercharger, but minimal gains otherwise, especially without headers/cai/catback. Wait did someone just say that? :p Hey 200 alright

Did something change in the last...I dunno...nine or ten years since h2oman (I think that was his username) put his truck on the dyno for the benefit of everyone with a 1st-gen who wanted a unichip? Did the dyno charts just disappear? Has everyone completely forgotten, do people not search, or have most of the original owners moved on?

The fact is, dyno results over the years have showed similar gains between headers and Unichip, minimal gains and sometimes losses with exhaust depending on bore, losses with "cold air intake" kits, and minimal gains when combining headers and chip.

So what's up, people? Not picking on you specifically, R242, but when did the forum lose all that technical information and begin substituting conjecture instead?

...Or am I just missing the joke?

I'll go out on the limb and say the answer to the question in bold (above), is nope. It's no joke. The info is still there, one only has to use the search feature and let their minds do the reading. However, there are plenty of threads here that get side-tracked or get in the wrong forum that only make it harder for someone to find what they are looking for when they do a search.

If you didn't see humor in the OP's first post, then I'd say yeah you missed the joke. Is he talking about an ebay chip? Hard to provide a specific answer for such a loose query. No offense was intended(especially to 2002TUNDY), just having a little fun

Joking aside, problem is threads like this particular one. Searching for "good" information is nearly impossible. Prime example, wheels and tires for a 1st Gen... how many f*ckin threads exist about what does/doesn't fit??? You click the first few recents and there are no answers because people are tired of answering! It would take days to sort through them all. In regards to this topic though, I did a lot of searching. Reviews were positive for the Unichip, or I wouldn't have wasted $600 willy nilly. Skip to results... I got nothing. I already had JBA's, Magnaflow and an AEM intake. The Unichip was nothing but problems from the get go, with check engine lights for various codes. It did absolutely nothing for gas mileage or for performance whether I used regular 87 octane on one tune or 92 on the other tune. Freakin waste of time and money. If you want better gas mileage, change spark plugs and you'd be better off.

Sorry to hear that. I've never had a CEL, and the results on my truck were consistent with the dyno charts. I sent a PM to the guy who I *think* had all the charts posted years ago, hopefully he'll write back.

(Also: "/thread" bwahahahaha)
I'm here, but I only have empty's....

I was really satisfied with my chip, it was a Nacho Dorito ® which is a tortilla chip doused in flavor powder and food coloring. Very powerful flavor, goes well with beer and pizza.
