My 03 Tundra's differential is hot to the touch after 18-20 miles of highway driving. I can only hold my hand on the housing for 2-3 seconds. I have 50K miles on it and have taken it in and was told there was no problem. To check the actual temperature, I am going to check with an infared temperture sensor. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

This is normal with dino oil in there. I was actually impressed with the difference when you switch over to synthetic. It is only warm then.

you are right about it being only warm. i switched to synthetic in my e-locker diff today, went for a drive for about 20 minutes, and you could feel the difference on the outside of the pumpkin!! synthetic is good stuff!!
