When you get to 0, how many miles do you really have left?
I had to drive 2 miles once on 0, it didn't go to -1 if you are going to ask. I know this is a bad thing to do.

I don't get the preoccupation with DTE. Neither DTE nor MPG numbers are believable from the display. I've never gotten a calculated average MPG within 1 or 2 MPGs of the display and my calculated one is always less. I think Toyota just wants you to THINK you're getting a 16.7 average.

The better alternative to DTE is watching your gas gauge. Even that's not completely believable but my point is, what difference does it make if DTE shows 0 miles if the gas gauge hasn't yet reached empty?

I know I'm a gambler, but I completely ignore the DTE. I've gone many, many miles past its "zero" mark, and never had trouble. I even go well past the fuel warning light sometimes, and still the most I've EVER put in was 24 gallons. In theory, that should still leave me another 15-17 miles, right? Okay, I don't think I'll push that one!!!:D

After taking a trip to watch the AMA races at Brainerd, MN--The last fill up on the return trip included to top the fill tube (point of spillage).

To make a long story short---I past the idiot light (warning), then the 0 mark came and gone (still assuring the passengers with me that I had lots of fuel to make it back home; boy, I was scared sh*(%$@*).

I stopped at the first fuel station just to play it safe and not push my luck anymore---Total fuel ingested was 25.5 gallons (must have been riding on fumes, as my Mom would say).

haven't ridden on vapors in the sequoia yet, but after the DTE zeroes out i believe you've got at least another 4 gallons to go. i don't follow the digital read out either but i always watch how many gallons it'll take when the gas gauge is showing empty (21 gallons) and since the sequoia's gas tanks holds 26 gallons i figured the extra 4 gallons would be right.

LOL! i knew someone was going to bring that up! :p

i just put 4 to be on the safe side! :) don't want someone running out of gas and saying damn, "Simias said 5 more gallons!" :clown:

DTE 0

I just found a way to make the DTE read 0 while having a 1/4 tank left and no gas light. Reset it when getting gas and towing boat, this made total DTE 230 miles not the normal 360 miles. If you only tow for part of the tank then return to normal driving with out boat the DTE does not automatically recaulate for the better gas milage. I had almost 300 miles on the tank but DTE was at 0 for the last 70 and only took 21 gallons.

DTE

When I fill up I always reset the odometer and my avg. mile per gallon display. When the tank is on empty and display is 0 I would fill up and could only add 22 gallons, and would travel avg. 300 miles. At an avg. of 14 mpg city multiplied by 26 gallon tank, I should be able to travel 364 miles. I believe both the gauge and display are off, but I guess I should never run out of gas when I'm on empty.
