Fog Lights

Hi All,

As you may have guessed I am new here lol. Was searching the web for some adive and came across this forum.

Here is my dilemma.

I have a 2006 Tundra Double cab and my own stupidity, I did not have it come with fog lights. After I recieved it I wanted them installed but the dealership I got them from said they could not do it. Said that if it did not come from factory they couldnt do it.

I called another dealership and they said they could they could do it. No problem. But it would cost me about 450.

i called the first dealership back and told them what the second dealership said and they finally admitted they could do it but it might not work right. Something about the computer and what not. (been to long ago now to remember exactly everything that was said lol.)

Is this correct? I am stuck with not being able to install the fog lights? Te cut out is already there.

Now if it is not true..meaning I would be able to install them, how would I go about doing this? I am not all the mechanicly inclined but can do some work.

i would much rather do this myself and not have to pay 450 to get it done?

Or do you think I would be better off paying to have it done? lol

Thanks for any help

Are they charging you $450 just for install?

if you were to do it yourself with factory parts it would probably cost something like 150 per fog light x 2= 300 . plus 100$ for the fog light stalk switch and another 15 for the relay. so 450 installed would be about right. you could do some internet shopping to find deals on that stuff, especially the oem fog lights but they are pretty pricey. that 100$ option at the dealership looks a little better now huh?

My opinion. Aftermarket foglights are better. You can find lamps/kits that will fit in the designed holes in the bumper.

The reason I like aftermarket better - you have the choice of when your fogs are on or off. With the factory settings, your light are on only when you have the low beams on (I don't know if they come on when you just have the parking lights on). Aftermarkets, you can have them on anytime you flip the switch.

Of course the downside to aftermarket (for me) is finding a place to install the switch that keeps the clean look of the dash. In the past, I saw a kit for $500 on PerformanceProducts4Trucks.com, but it isn't in the latest catalog and isn't on the website. It came with factory fogs lights, wiring, and a switch that replaced one of the switch plugs in the dash. I just thought $500 was too high for aftermarket (Maybe that is why it isn't in the catalog anymore?).

See here for DC part numbers (AC and regular cab parts will not work in a DC):

DC Fog Light Part Numbers

You will spend $350-450 on the parts alone for factory parts at a discount Toyota supplier. That is why most just install aftermarket. Your quote from the Toyota dealer was probably install of non-Toyota parts. Factory install is fairly straight forward. There are wiring mods if you want to be able to turn them on at any time.

No the 450 was for the price of parts plus install.

CyberTundras if you were to do it yourself with factory parts it would probably cost something like 150 per fog light x 2= 300 . plus 100$ for the fog light stalk switch and another 15 for the relay. so 450 installed would be about right. you could do some internet shopping to find deals on that stuff, especially the oem fog lights but they are pretty pricey. that 100$ option at the dealership looks a little better now huh?

Those prices are exactly what the dealer that said they could install them qouted me..other than the stalk switch or the relay. They didn't mention anything about those. Said everything was already wired up fr the lights. The just would need the lights and install them. As for the 100$ option from the deal when I bought the truck, I didn't have that option. When I was looking I found the 1 I wanted but it had just been sold. So the dealership looked and found 1 that was on it way. So I told them I would take that 1. Said it was exactly like the 1 that had just been sold. That being said I still didnt know what did or did not come on it. They can say it was exactly like it but still have somethings different. So long story short now lol, I didnt know what was or wasnt coming on the truck and when it got to the dealership I saw it didnt have the foglights and I told them I wanted them and thats when they said they couldn't do it.

I agree with Microxot I would like to be able to turn then on/off when i wanted but also want to keep the look of factory.

Thank you all for your help and in put.

I'd just installed OEM fog light for my 06 DC, the lights were 110.00 ea
and OEM stalk switch was 98.00. the relay was a freebee from local junk yard (any newer toyota model should work), it only took me about 1/2 hr to install it. All parts were ordered thru Toyota of Dallas.
If you want to turn the fog lights on whenever then just cut tap the relay feed to the brightness controll wire.
