I have a 2010 4.6 Tundra if I fill the tank as soon as the gas light comes on it will take 18-20 gallons. I'm pretty sure the tank is 26.4. The gauge goes down really fast Does anyone else's Tundra do this?? I know the idiot light is on there for a reason but with 6-8 gallons still in the tank is kinda early notice.

Thanks Matt

Soooo, you're saying you have an 8 gallon reserve or you can only get 8 gallons in your tank?

The Tundras have just over a 6 gallon reserve with the light on and if it makes you feel any better, my gauge moves awfully fast too.

I don't usually like to go below much more than 1/2 tank... I like to keep the fuel pump submerged in fuel as much as possible... However, because of the way the fuel gauge works, I let it the guage go down to 1/4 tank, which is really half tank...

yea...old news...been mentioned almost as many times as gas pedal recalls have been...just a long long time ago...

alot of us have driven 50-60 miles after the miles to empty is on 0. the light doesnt really mean anything except its kinda sorta low...the miles to empty ticking down to zero gives u an idea that u have about 6 gallons left hahaha i know...its weird...

What type of MPG's you getting with the 4.6 Firemedic? I see anything from 13.75 city to 17.3 mostly highway with a 5.7.

^I get about 13 around town. 15-16 on the freeway (short trips of 30 miles or so) and recently got 17.2 MPG on the way back from Vegas a few weeks ago. CM 4x4.

There is a very good reason for this. Say you are towing. You may be getting 8-10 miles per gallon. This meains that a 6 gallon 'warning' will give yuo 48-60 miles before empty. Not a whole lot if you happen to be in the middle of BFE.
BUT, I did wonder the same thing the first time I filled up!! Then someone pointed out the above to me.

The 17.3 MPG was when I took a trip to tampa and a few days of going to work on the highway. It is not normal for me to get over 16 MPG or so. I am still wondering if the 4.6 gets that much better MPG to loose the power of the 5.7, probably not.

9.5 the previous tank all city. Next tank - shoud see just over 10 considering I have over 170 miles wtih a 1/4 tank left. I've only sunk my foot into it twice, and pretty much idled everywhere else.

9.5?? Wow. You still using 4wd all the time? At first i was thinking 'Drive it like you stole it!' but seems from what you said that isnt the case.

Nope, no 4wd in the last prolly 6 tanks.

I have a LOT of stop and go driving, lots of stop signs, lots of .5-2 mile trips.... etc.. I probably spend my average MPH around 15 or so. Really sucks for gas mileage on a college campus and my bike is out of order because I don't want to pay the $10 for the part I need - and it's too small haha.

I don't think the brush guard causes much of it but the tires might. I need to check the tire pressure soon. Like I said in a different thread, my friend gets about 14 mpg in his '05 Silverado extended cab 4wd with the same mods mine has and 139K miles.
