The repair involves installing a steel shim a couple of millimeters thick in the pedal assembly, behind the top of the gas pedal, to eliminate the excess friction between two pieces of the accelerator mechanism. In rare cases, Toyota says, that friction can cause the pedal to become stuck in the depressed position.

Re: Gas Pedal Fix is here

Personally, I don't want the fix, I want a new assembly made by the Vendor who doesn't have the problem. I don't want some low-level mechanic screwing around with my gas pedal and making my truck a test bed for Toyota's quick fix solution.

Yah, I too have concerns about this. In a rush to get something out there to make customers and the media happy, it appears as they are cutting corners.

I won't be hurrying down to the dealership for this recall.....I am going to take a wait and see approach...

Well my truck drives just fine as of right now. When they start sending out the recall notices to every owner I'm just not going to bit on the bate just yet. I'll wait until this is the solution to the so call problem. Thats my 2 cents!

I hope they need our consent - I am due for oil service and state inspection and will post news next week.

The fix does not look very trustworthy and will change the pedal position, replacing the faulty part with a Denso pedal would be the right thing to do.

If it's a temporary fix, I'll take it. After 36,000 miles with a 2007 Tundra and 15,000 miles with a 2008 Sequoia, I'm not really nervous anyways.

I'm not an engineer so I'm not going to play armchair quarterback at this point. I don't really think they'd risk additional grief by taking a guess on the fix.

I agree, I really don't think Toyota would take a shortcut in this day and age and with the spotlight on them. I have always stood by Toyota and will continue to. This Tundra is my 4th Toyota and will not be my last.

I dare say put any of the big three in this situation and see how they would react...

Brake override software update?

I for will try not get this Gas Pedal fix; I am going to be in the wait see mode. The adding of a metal shim to make contact against two pieces of plastic, IMHO is a mistake & will cause more problems than it will solve. Common sense tells me that when you have a metal making contact with plastic, the wear on the plastic will be accelerated.

This was shown in the early '80 when GM tried to save money will a plastic gear in the transmission. The transmission required rebuilding at around 40,000 miles due to the plastic gear that contacted with metal would be worn out.

Toyota’s engineers have developed and rigorously tested a solution that is both effective and simple. A precision-cut steel reinforcement bar will be installed into the accelerator pedal assembly, thereby eliminating the excess friction that has caused pedals to stick in rare instances.
The occurrence of the pedal actually sticking on your vehicle has already been declared by Toyota as rare. If offered a scheduled time for repair, you should not pass it up because you're waiting on another option.
