I'm thinking of installing a Icom 706MKIIG vs 7000 and I was wondering where to put it. I've got the Kenwood DNX 5140 in the dash as well and was thinking I could also set that up as a slave monitor to the Icom radio.

If any of you have ham radio setups you'd be willing to take pictures of I'd be very appreciative.

I've seen some of the post on here including Cliffy's setup which is incredible That's a bit more involved than I think I can do. I'm also reluctant to start drilling holes in my roof, but would like to find a good place for at least a 2m antenna and perhaps an HF setup.

Thanks in advance for your help.

First. Drill a hole in your roof. There's no better V/U mounting point. Any good HF antenna is too tall to go on the roof, so you've got to use the bed. I'm planning on mounting my radio chassis under a seat and putting the control head on a jointed arm, then mounting the base of the arm at the bottom of the center stack. I'm probably going to run a small AF amp and utilize the center dash speaker opening to pipe the ham audio through.

That web site looks like it has some great info and will be very helpful.
I was thinking of setting up the radio under the seat as well, as it would be out of the way. I wasn't sure where to put the front panel, off of the center stack sounds like a reasonable place.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Do a search on CB Radio installations and see what the guys have done. They have come up with some pretty good ideas for mounting things...
