i am getting ready to buy a rhino for working on my land and having fun. wondering if anyone has been hauling one around in the new tundra. wondering if i have to buy a trailer for hauling it back and forth from home to the land as we haven't built storage there and probably won't start building a house til next fall. any info is appreciated. i would love to just be able to load it in the truck and go. i know about the tailgate issue and have no problem making the dealerships life miserable until they give me a new one if mine fails.

I have done it in all of my other trucks. The tail gate is fine for loading and loading. I would just put an extra set of ratcheting tie downs that looped under the rear tires and lifted the rear of the rhino up a little (not off the ground but just helped on big bumps when driving.

I have been into UTV's for several years now. If you want one for play get the RZR they are a lot more fun. But for work and play the rhino is a great alternative. I would also definitely consider long travel suspension. It is well worth it. But then you certainly won't be able to fit it in the back of the truck.

Here are the bed dimensions of your truck
Inside bed length 78.7, Inside bed depth 22.2, Inside bed width at tailgate 66.4, between wheelwells 50.0. Remember not to drive through your rear window and also don't get an aftermarket bumper that sticks out or you will not be able to fit it in the truck.

I wish the bed was longer on the crewmax if so i would through a long travel RZR back there.

i had put a 650 quad.. i forgot what it was... maybe a rhino idk but i put it in and u have to be really careful cuz if its pushed back on the tailgate.. enough force could cause the tailgate not to open.. and that happened to me.

My 05 Ranger fits in our long box Tundra. I've not considered putting it in the CM. Use caution when loading!!!
With my Ranger it is very easy to hit the rear window with the brush gaurd as you roll over the wheel wells!

Go for it. As long as it isnt a long travel rhino you should be fine..... I carry my quads all the time in my crewmax, as well as my 10 ft long snowmachine (granted, a LOT hangs out the back!) so its all possible.

Thats what i have be thinking. That i should be fine. I have carried a Kawasaki Praire 700 around a bunch in the DC but nothing bigger. I am goign to strap it in and hope the tailgate holds. thanks for the caution on the window. I have done that before. SUCKS!

Don't do it. I have a Rhino and used to haul it the back of my 93 Chevy K1500 before I got a trailer. It puts a tremendous amount of weight on the tailgate. The Chevy had a much beefier tailgate then my Tundra. I wouldn't even try it. You also have to roll one of the front tires over a wheel well on one side because the Rhino won't fit between the wells. With the thin metal on the Tundra you'll probably end up denting the wheel well. It was a pain getting the Rhino secured as well. I ended up getting a 5.5 X 10ft trailer with a drop down gate. It's so much easier loading, securing, and hauling the Rhino this way.

My bed was a lot longer on my Dodge. And this was really no problem. The problem with the CM is the bed is too short. But that is trade off for such huge back seats. The DC would work just like the pictures. Notice the ratcheting tie downs to alleviate the weight on the tail gate. I know it is somewhat Beverly Hillbillies....

I just lay down a piece of plywood to keep the load on the tailgate dispersed. My ATV weighs over a 1000 pounds with me on it and I have no problems. I know the UTV's are closer to 1400 pounds but you should be good if you use the wood. I also have the Firestone airbags with the compressor which makes it ride soooooo good.

If a UTV = ~1,400 lbs, that leaves ~100 lbs for everything else (driver, passenger(s), plywood, ramps, riding gear, mods, etc. on a crew max. Maybe 200 pounds on a double cab. Might be time for a trailer.

There is no way your Can-Am is that heavy. The most loaded 2 up can am weighs in at 713 dry.... Not to talk smack, just that you have nothing to worry about with the weight....
Outlander MAX 800R EFI LTD - Specifications - Can-Am

The rhino on the other hand is heavier (obviously)... with gas, oil, and gear....youll be over the payload in a crewmax, but I doubt that it will fit very well anyway...its 113 inches long.....thats 9 ft 5 ins.... crewmax bed is what 5ft 6 in? Anyways rhino is 1140 dry......

I am really trying to find out if someone has put one in the back of the DC. The weight i am not that worried about. I have put a 1 ton pallet of wood pellets in the back of the DC a couple times without an issue. I just need to haul it maybe 15 mins for the time beginning and will most likely get a trailer eventually. but forking out the extra dough for that just isn't in the budget right now. So seeing if any one has done it and if they had any issues.

I have only seen it done a few times. You have to be ULTRA careful when coming down the back side of the wheel wells to not put that bumper through the back window. Other than that, go for it!!

just go buy a trailer 350-750 will get you a nice used aluminum trailer that weighs next to nothing. I used to be in the my tundra is bullet-proof nothings going to happen to my tailgate with a 3/4" plywood on there but after loading up 30-40 times with a 600lb grizzly I had joined the tailgate failure club too. plus its sooo much easier to tie it down on the trailer than in the bed, just my .02

Going and buying a trailer sounds like a great idea except for we are in the process of building a house so coming up with that extra cash isn't as easy as it sounds. eventually that is the plan but hoping to just load it in the truck for the time being. hope the tailgate survives.

I load my Polaris back there. I did break my old tailgate, but the new one is holding nicely.

Although I say that, I know own a 21ft utility trailer b/c it is easier, allows us to truckpool while atving, and is a bit safer than loading into the back of the truck.

I would put ramps over the wheel wells for the Rhino they are wider than 48 inches.
