Hellwig helper springs (ez-550) problem

I read this here and thought the helper springs were a good idea since leveling the truck. Tried to install them yesterday and ran into a problem I don't know how to solve. If I put them close to the axle as prescribed, the rear u-bolt sits just past the bracket that holds the leafs together (what's that thing called?) That would be okay except the little plastic button sits right under the plate. If I move them toward the rear to clear the button, the arc of the spring touches the bracket on the top side. Hard to explain, but if it makes any sense at all, are there any suggestions? I realize these are universal, so I didn't expect much. I took them off since I couldn't see a good way to use them in that configuration.

Putting that bracket on upside down is not a bad idea. The u-bolt would fit between the bracket and the little plastic alignment button. I can't get under the truck to take a great picture right now, but I stuck the phone under there and got a bad picture from the side. I wish the Hellwig springs were about 2" shorter so i could get it in front of the bracket with no interference.

Did you not have this problem Remmy700p? Maybe the 2003 springs are different. Here's a drawing to explain more what I'm talking about. I'm not sure they'll work, but the suggestion above to install the u-bolt upside-down is a good thought since the top of the u-bolt is narrower than the plate, and will sit right between the two offending objects.

I suggest not flipping the u-bolt upside down. The round-edged bolt needs to sit in the bar's groove and the backing plate needs to sit flat against the underside of the leaf pack. I would slide the entire assembly rearward sufficient to clear the end of that leaf. You can maneuver the bar to sit inside the arms of the leaf pack clamp and/or pry the clamp outwards some so the bar sits inside.

"Leaf pack clamp". That's the word I was looking for! :)

By sliding the helper spring toward the rear so that the clamp clears the leaf, the helper will now be sitting on the Leaf pack clamp. Is this OK? Hellwig's site says this 550 fits the Tacoma not the Tundra. Maybe this is why it's not fitting too well. Please keep me posted on how you finally have this installed, so that can make a decision between this or an aal.

Prying open the leaf pack clamp would be more than just a 'little' to fit the helper leaf in there with the others. The only way I can see to install these is to move it back as Remmy suggested and let it sit just above the leaf pack clamp.
bnjp, have you decided how you were installing these yet?

I actually decided not to install them. I sold them to a friend who put them on his truck (GMC Sonoma). I DID install the Hellwig rear sway bar though, and it's awesome. I just never got a real comfort level with the helper springs, and honestly I don't really need them. Not that I couldn't have worked it out, I just opted for the sway bar instead.
