I seriously do just about everything they recommend here: http://www.hypermilingforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3#post3
Everything but the drafting thing. It's just so not safe I can't justify doing something that I just can't stand other people doing.
Here's what they recommend:
1. maintain proper air pressure
2. removing items from your car that are not needed, keep excess weight out of the bed etc.
3. keeping your car properly maintained and Changing your air filter on a regular basis
4. anticipating when you have to brake and braking at a slower rate
5. don't drive aggressively
6. Use Neutral going down hills or when anticipating a red light
7. drafting
8. don't leave your car in idle longer than 10 seconds
I have a very extremely short drive to work each morning, maybe 5 minutes, lol. And on the weekend I drive to my other job maybe 10 miles. I chose where I live pretty wisely.
But I've gotten an average of 14.5 mpg when driving like this Hypermiling forum recommends. Pretty sad. Compared to the 14 mpg I get when I drive like a maniac. Anyways, I'll keep it up for another month and see what kind of results I get after that time.
Anyone else try Hypermiling?
