How many of you Texans have illegal tint on your front windows? If you do, has the law ever given you trouble? I'm about to get tint put on my Tundra and I want to go with 20% on the fronts but I won't do it if it's a huge risk. I just hate to get 35% because I think it's a bit too light.

Thanks so much,

Wes

I don't have an illegal tint but I have been pulled over because my windows were suspect. I guess they did not have anything else to do that day. I am curious to what kind of fines anyone has had to pay.

You will never pass sticker inspection. They check it now, in TX.

I have 5% all around, never been pulled over and when inspection comes I'll just lower my windows like I do in my BMW and did in my Acura. ;) LOL I even took the window fuse out in my MDX just in case, they never said anything about it.

And I doubt LEOs are surfing TS.com looking for people w/ illegal tint to track down. :boink:

State trooper got me for x2 limo. His meter said it read 2%. Man did it look killer on my black RCSB. Anyhoo, peeled it off, went to court, got a 15 dollar fine, and retinted with 20%.

FWIW it only took 2 weeks to get nabbed with the x2 limo. I dont even get a second look with 20% and have passed inspections for 3 years

Thanks for all the replies, but I went and got my truck tented last week. All the fun haters on here persuaded me to get 35% on the fronts..:D . Anyway, I actually think it looks pretty good and I can rest easy knowing it will pass inspection and I wont ever get a ticket for it.

Hi....I'm a LEO, lol....but true, I look for other things than window tint for PC on a stop. You can go to the level of 25%....Some places say to use caution as some windows have a natural 5% already.....I'm not sure to the legitimacy of that, but I've never tested.

I spoke to my cousin (a DPS Trooper) about this tinting deal and he said 25% is the Texas limit but you can get away with 20%.

i have a tint meter in my patrol car. and i use it all the time. :) just sayin.

BTW, 25 percent is whats allowed for the tint and glass combined. it actually specifies 35 percent for the tinting material, and when combined with factory tinting on glass (almost all glass has some tint to it, as stated above...5-10 percent...) then the combination is allowed to be 25 percent. i usually only cite the ones in the single digits on my tint meter....
