Been a long time lurker but I finally have a question that I can not seem to find the answer to anywhere within these forums!!!

I have a 2005 double cab limited edition with the 20" Enkei Deep Six wheels with a 2.5" tuff country lift kit. I want to get bigger tires and I am shooting for 33's, I won't be going mudding or anything I just want it for the beefy look. I want to know if I will have any rubbing issues or do I need to get a bigger suspension lift, as well as do I need wheel spacers??

Also any recommendations on tires that have a high tread wall and give that beefy off road look??

I just want to be sure I do everything right before I spent a couple of grand :):):)

You won't get 33's on without a serious lift, and or serious cutting off of the wheel wells and pinch weld....from what I understand, getting 285/65r16 are about the biggest you can go, and they are max of about 31.9 inches...that is what I have with Bilstein 5100 on top notch and I get no rubbing this is with Goodyear duratrac wranglers.... with the 20 inch rims you ate going to be going pretty low pro to not rub...imo anything bigger than 18 is too big for our trucks but that might be the part of me that thinks a truck should be able to tackle at least non paved surfaces without worrying that I'm going to roast my couple thousand dollar rims and wheels...

if you want more side wall, ditch the 20 and go with 16 or 17 and get 285/75/16 or 285/70/17. there 32.8 so equivalent to 33 and since your not offroading you dont need to worry about that much rubbing. only rub at full lock on frame unless you get wheels with less backspacing.

ive got 285 nittos on stock 16 wheels and 1.5 inch lift up front and i only rub on frame at full lock and its a beefy stance.

Sorry that was the size I meant, 285/75r16 and it is 31.9 equivalent I'm pretty sure because I know I've read about lots of guys saying 33 won't fit, and honestly 32.8 is so close that I'm pretty sure it wouldn't either

krprice, tundra3400 is correct. Here is the calculations

LT = light truck, R = radail tire, not rim size
285mm,, so to convert to inchs 285/25.4 = 11.22" wide
75%, so 0.75 x 11.22 = 8.415" tall sidewall height
You have 2 sidewalls (top and bottom) so 8.415 x 2 = 16.83"
Now you add in your rim dia. which is 16" so 16 + 16.83 = 32.83

A 285/75-16 is 32.83" tall and 11.22" wide

I am running 285/75/16 with the 5100's on the top notch, and no rubbing. The correct backspacing and alignment makes a big difference too.

Oh...definitely my bad then....I guess I was looking at what the 265/75 is....in that case I guess I'm misunderstanding something about fitting 33's and not

"fitting" has many different meanings. some say it as there in no rubbing at full lock, full compression. but other say it fits if you dont go offroading and turn to full lock. that is what i do, no offroad and no full lock turning and i have no problem with the tires.

Oh ok, I guess that does change things....I guess he did say he won't be going off road, but personally I definitely would prefer my tires not rub at full compression full lock, just in case, it sure would suck to be turning in a parking lot and not notice a curb and smoke it, sending your tire into your wheel well pinch weld and damaging it....though if it just rubs on the frame then I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world to have it rub once in a blue moon like that

yea, once you have the look of bigger tires you wont worry about rubbing because it will give the truck a really good look lol

Lol I guess if you are concerned with hour the truck looks and not how it functions then sure, but I think most of the time having a truck that looks mean and big would not really outweigh functionality and/or risking ripping apart a 3-6 hundred dollar tire.....I know I can't afford to find out that way that my tires are too big lol

lol true but if i was going to offroad it wouldn't be in my DD because then i have the risk of breaking things as well. but its all personal preference and what you do with your truck.

Yea I wish I used that advice before I blew the engine in my dd.... stupid me
yea things happen lol. i was reading that thread you started. sounds like a good project. if my 3.4 falls apart early i might try to find a 4.7 since its mostly a bolt up swap and harnesses i think.
