I see a reference to a special tool (SST 09228-06501). In diagrams it appears to be a type of wrench. Do you have to buy this from a Toyota dealer if you do your own oil changes?

Yes, but you can buy it at walmart or checker auto parts. I think they're about 5 bucks.

It can be put on a 3/8" ratchet extension & can be used to remove small regular type oil filters as well.

If you dont mind, what exactly is "it"? I want to go to walmart and buy this special wrench/socket or whatever I need. Forgive me as I am a little confused as to what exactly I need to buy to get my filter off. Thanks for the help.

Cupped oil filter wrench. 65mm x 14 flutes (flats) is what I believe Stripped Honda said.

Edit: it was FiveOh who posted the size.
