Jeep vs my Tundra - just curious

I rented a 4 door 2007 Jeep Wrangler while on vacation last week and was really surprised by the prehistoric feel of the 4 wheel drive system when compared to the one on my '06 Tundra. The Tundra has a much better ride and behaves much more predicitably than the Jeep did. Is this the case with Jeep or was there something wrong with the Jeep I rented? Just curious.

other than fuel injection , air bags, ASB - disc brakes and coil springs the Jeep has not changed much in the last 60 years. :D

Jeep has solid front axles, Tundra has IFS.

Comparing the two is really not fair because they are both two very different vehicles for very different duties.

I like the jeeps, but would put my 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 up against one any day. :)

well my cousin has a Jeep SRT8 and that thing rides pretty good
if you guys are wondering if our trucks can keep up with these SRT8s
unfotunately, the answer is "NO".
those things are damn fast and having a crewmax doesnt help on the weight.

The Tundra or any other pickup truck can't run with the Jeep SRT8 that thing goes 0 to 60 in less than 5 sec. Thats some serious speed for an SUV.

I guess what I am trying to say is that the Jeep was a bear to steer in 4WD and did not have the traction that the Tundra has. It was real notchy and did not inspire any confidence in it on island moutain roads. I realize they are different vehicles - like a Porsche and an MB but the 4WD aspect does lend itself to comparison.

No offense, but any of those Wrangler would walk all over any Tundra on a trail. Not to mention the Rubicon edition ones. They are built for a specific purpose, and their on road manners are meant to only be pasable between trails. Ive always been a Jeep fan. If they ever pop their head outta their *** and put a diesel or V8 in one, Ill have to take a closer look again.

Also, the new Wrangler have power windows/door locks for the first time in the models history on the JKs.

Thanks Rockstate - being fairly under educated in the 4WD world are you saying that a Jeep with a solid front axle has both front wheels providing drive while the Tundra has only one front wheel at a time providing drive?
