Limited Mirror wiring help

hello,

just bought limited mirror from a forum member and want to get all the fuctions to work (heat, power adjust, power folding, signal, puddle lights & auto dim). I currently have 8 pins so my understanding is that all but power folding, puddle lights and auto dim don't work. i did search on the forum and found out that pin 7 & 8 are for the power folding, pin 5 & 6 are for puddle lights but I can't find anything on the auto dim. which pin is for the auto dim?

thanks in advance

Pins 13 and 14 are auto dimming at the mirror.

thanks north52.. i was under the assumption that i will only need total of 13 wires to get everything to work according to Big Vic - http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/tundra/174063-mirror-swap-wiring-help-sr5-limited/ - 2nd post). if i do pin 13 & 14, then I will need to add 6 extra wires (2 for folding, 2 for puddle lights and 2 for auto diming) so 8 + 6 = 14. 14 wires??? i am confused..

also, where do you plug in at the kick panel?

thanks
I'm installing my limited mirrors tomorrow. The mirror switch with the power fold button came today, last thing I was waiting for. I'll take pictures and identify plugs.
I am not sure what wires are used for the auto diming but my mirrors have a total of 17 wires. Pic is bellow

I had partial success today. I was able to remove my existing tow mirrors and replace them with the limited mirrors. I also replaced the mirror control switch on the dash.
This is what my mirror connection looks like, 9 pins.

This thread gives details on how to remove the door panels.

I bought a set of nylon removal tools from ebay. They have various angles and edges that work great for removing panels, trim, etc. without scratching the finish. The triangle shaped trim panel on the interior that covers the mirror screws and connector comes off by gently prying it on one side. The sill panel is held in with plastic tabs. Insert a screw driver, putty knife, nylon tool underneath and gentle pry it up. The kick panel fits over the door molding and is held in by one screw at the top of the panel, it comes off really easy.

The door boot where the wires run from the cab to the door. This step was a major pain in the [email protected]@!!. Trying to "snake" the wires through this boot is difficult. I found that pulling the boot out of the door opening and the cab opening helped. You can see where the door wires come in through a square white opening by the kick panel. The wires are a bundle wraped in electrical tape. Start the wires through this opening and just wiggle and manuver any way that works until they move through the boot. When they got far enough I was able to pull them through with a needle nose plyers.

Black boot and wires pulled through.

Mirror wiring harness and (3) 10mm threaded fasteners holding the mirror. The other fastner is at the top, just out of the picture. I used a deep well socket to remove, be careful here, if you drop the fastner it will end up inside the door! I have (8) wires at the harness

I've attached a diagram showing the wiring harness connections and pin numbers for the kick panel connections.

From other posts and emails I believe that pins 7 & 8 on the mirror harness are the power fold connections, pins 13 & 14 are the auto dimming connection and pins 5 & 6 are the puddle lamps. I connected 20 gauge wire to female connectors and crimped the ends. I got the connectors from: Tyco Electronics, part number 1123343-1. These fit perfectly inside the Toyota plastic wire connectors. I checked continuity and all my connections were good. I went to install the other end of the wires into the NJ3 connector, one of the blue ones behind the kick panel. Here is where I ran into trouble. Even though I could have connected the new wires, the necessary wires on the female connection ARE MISSING so there was nothing to plug into. Since I have a regular cab deluxe with the SR5 option I must have a different wiring harness than the double and crewmax SR5's. If I'm wrong of this please correct me!!
I think I can still do it on mine but I'd need to run wires from the female side of NJ3 to connector JL1. If anyone has done this mod with a regular cab I'd appreciate your input.

Here is the wiring diagram of the mirror switch without the memory feature.

This is a far as I got today. Sorry if some of this information has been previously posted but I wanted to share what I found out in my install.

P.S.
The power adjustments, turn signals and heated feature all work fine and I LOVE the look compared to the tow mirrors!

thanks Jim, I also got the folding mirror to work today. do you know where wires go at kick panel for the auto dim and puddle lights? I know some people wired the puddle lights to the foot light by the hood release but just wondering if anyone else figured out where the wires actually go into the cluster wires/connectors? i meant it would be easier to wire to the foot light but i am not big fan of having puddle lights come on when turning on the interior lights (flipping the switch).

Congrats. Wayne, glad you got yours working! :tu: Pins 13 & 14 at the mirror connection control the auto dimming. One thing I found on my Tundra, once I had the new mirror connected to the harness; before adding pins, I experimented by removing two of the blue connectors one at a time. I would remove one plug and I'd loose the turn signals, plug it back in and unplug the one above it and I'd have the turn signal back but no power adjustment. Your wiring harness at the kick panel is different than mine. I'll have to run wires from the female side to the JL1 connector, but in your case you had all the wires there, a difference between a deluxe with the SR5 option and a regular/cremax SR5 model.

When I need interior light I use the overhead console ones. If you want the puddle lamps to come on when unlocking the doors with the keyless entry I'd tap into the small courtesy lamp located on the lower trim panel, drivers side. I thought about using the light located on the bottom of the door, but I think this one only comes on when the door is open, so using the keyless entry wouldn't activate it....and I thought this was going to be easy!!

I did this swap yesterday and it went pretty well. I have the drivers side mirror working and everything tied in at the mirror on the passenger side, but I've run into a small problem on the passenger side.

The MJ2 connecter at the kick panel on the passenger side where the two power fold mirror wires go takes much bigger pins than the .1" pins I used everywhere else. What have other people used for pins on this connector? I just need to pin these last two wires and I'm done!
You actually can't wire the puddle lamps in an OEM fashion. Since puddle lamps only come with the mirrors on trucks with memory, the puddle lamps tie into the ECU for the mirror control that is inside the drivers door on trucks with memory. I have the wiring digram if you want to see it. The next best option is having them on the floor lamp.
what are the puddle lights that you are referring to ? I just bought limited mirrors and Im curious what your calling puddle lights.

lights under the mirrors and when you remote unlock the doors (and open the doors i guess), lights come on like courtesy lights
anyone know where i would connect the auto dim wires at kick panels?

thanks in advance
On the driver side, the auto dim wires go to the same connector as the power fold wires. The wires at the mirror (pins 13 & 14) go to pins 5 & 6 at the kick panel. On the passenger side, the auto dim wires go into a different harness than the power fold. The power fold go into the bottom connector and the auto dim wires go two above that. The wires at the mirror (pins 13 & 14) go to pins 6 & 5 on that connector.

ok. I will give it a try this weekend. thanks
where did you get your switch and is it the one without memory apparently found only in the platinum? but where did you get it and how much $

Check out Sparks Toyota TRD Toyota-Scion Performance Parts Accessories from Sparks Toyota-Scion go to the OEM parts section and search. Price was not bad, cheaper than your local Toyota dealer. If you don't have the memory package on your rig don't get the switch with it. The part listing will give several choices, just choose the one you need.

I did my speaker upgrade this weekend, couldn't stand those lame, cheapo stock ones. Plan on getting my puddle lamps and folding feature working this week.
I got mine from Sparks
Can anyone post a diagram of the connector and label the pins. Just bought the limited mirrors for my 2010 Crewmax SR5 and wanted to get all of its features to work. Had trouble finding the mirror fold switch on sparks so a link to it would very much be appreciated. I do believe its the non memory switch for my truck. Thanks!
