I am upgrading my worn out BFG stocker tires for an LT tire. I dont want to go with an E rated tire and "D"s are hard to find. Do you see any problem towing a 9000 lb trailer with load class C tires? Thanks
Nope. I think you'll like the LT C's a lot more than the stock P's. I don't see an big need to go to E's unless that's all that is available in the size you want.
I just towed 8,500 lbs 1,000 miles on the stock P-Metrics with no problems at all. (Ok, it was a little I little squishy on bad roads, but other than that.)
C rated should be just fine. If you get the C's please report back on ride quality, brand, price etc.
Thanks guys. I'll let you know what I can find (anything that is not E class is hard to find in the LT275-65R18) A local dealer found only the Goodyear Wrangler ATS and the Firestone Destination AT in a C class tire, so I'll do some research on those. It looks like the Firestone has a 50K tread warr whereas the Goodyear has none...
I had the Firestone Destination LT load range C tires on my last Tundra. They were great for towing. Seemed ok for traction. I totaled the truck before I wore them out, though.
We've got a set of the Goodyear AT-S's; which are great on the hiway but are horrible off road. We've got the E-rated one's though, and they really don't ride too bad at all. Smooth & as quiet as can be on the road, but like i said if you go off road you won't like them. Even on hardpack dirt they act like you're driving in mud.
I think if i were to ever buy an AT again, it would be the Yokahama Gealoandar AT/S or the BFG-KO. But we prefer a mud tire.
