Currently looking to buy a 05-06 crew cab to replace my 97 taco, and I happened to find this photo of a first gen tundra with what appears to be an 8 foot flatbed on it. There's probably already a thread on this somewhere, but does anyone have any experience or insight on this type of conversion? Also wondered how that would affect towing.

If first gens came in manuals and with longer beds they'd really be my dream truck

There are a few threads on here of guys that have done it. Your best bet is to ask your question in one of the existing threads. If any of these guys are still around they might see any questions you post and respond.
Type in something like flat bed in the search box on this site and here's a few examples.

Back in the day I found some take offs of brand new long beds for just 400 bucks and wanted to fab it onto my 2000 Access Cab 4x4 5 speed manual. Because of the location of the rear wheel well you couldn't just drop the bed on the frame and looking into it I believe It would be basically just cutting off the rear close to the rear lights and and attaching the extension. I think the stretching of the frame and rear bumper wouldn't be a huge issue. Still in the back of my mind and then I could add the long bed version of my camper. Wouldn't add a huge amount of weight but would change the rear hang over the axle so 4x4 might change some.
