I could get the answers for you by doing the research myself, so you wouldn't have to... but I'd rather be lazy, too.

Besides, I'm not the one looking for the answers. :p

The only thing that has a short bed option, to my knowledge, is the doublecab, otherwise you have a "long bed"

I think the longbed is 140" and the shortbed is 127". Wait, that's the wheelbase. Bed length is 60 inches and 73 inches. I think.
73.5 & 60.3 In Toyota lingo that is the regular bed and the short bed. I'm not sure what the sales brochures call them, but when ordering repair parts or accessories they do not use the term "long" on the 05+ Tacoma's.

EDIT: W/bases as follows: reg cab 2WD:109.4, PreRunner/4WD: 110.0 /// AC: 2WD/X Runner: 127.2, PreRunner/4WD 127.8 /// DC: (only) PreRunner/4WD short bed (AKA short bed): 127.8, long bed (AKA reg bed) 140.9.
When I purchasd my bed mat the dealer stated they pulled the wrong most of the time due to Toyota having only a short and a regular bed and the regular bed is called a long bed when on a DC. I guess in marketing that is correct, but in parts lingo there is a short and a regular so if you order a part give your w/base and/or bed length in inches to avoid confusion.

EDIT again: The PreRunner/4WD's wheelbase difference is made up in the front as the front wheel is indexed further forward (0.6") than the small chassis 2WD's.
There are only 2 bed options a 5 ft bed on the d-cabs and a 6 foot bed that all reg and x-tra cabs have. So there is no real long bed option 8 foot bed.
i see. thanks all, that clears it up perfectly
