Hey guys!

I was wondering if any you guys have had experience with Daystar lift kits before. They seem like they're a pretty decent product. How much of a decrease in gas mileage should I expect to be getting with a lift kit installed?

I'm trying to win this lift kit through Magnaflow Performance Exhaust's Facebook. They are hosting a challenge on their Facebook page where the person who gets the most likes on their photo wins a Daystar lift kit and Magnaflow chrome exhaust tips. I submitted a photo of my '05 Tundra and noticed that I am the only Tundra entered in the contest, so I figured I would see if I could get some support from you guys. I posted the link to the picture at the bottom of this post for you guys. The end date is next Thursday, February 23rd at 5:00 pm. Thanks for all the input and thanks in advance to anyone who "likes" my picture on Facebook!

Just threw you a like!
Decrease in mileage will be small if even measureable but most here will recommend against using the spacer lifts. For reasons I just wrote about in another post, they wreak havoc on your suspension but increasing wear on your ball joints, Cv axles, coils, and shocks. They force the suspensions to droop lower than is designed for which can snap balljoints and ruin shocks very quickly. If you really want a lift, get a pair of Bilstein 5100 shocks for about $200 plus installation.

Thanks for the like! I'm in second with 32 likes, behind a monster truck Jeep that has 63 likes. Why is a guy with a lifted truck entering a contest for a lift kit? Beats me...

That's a pretty nice surprise that I won't notice a huge difference in fuel consumption. I was really worried about that. I have seen some posts on here with the recommendation not to use spacers, and honestly if I do win I will probably just make a YouTube video with the kit installed (the videos I put up of me revving with the Magnaflow muffler I got installed two years ago somehow got enough views to make me a YouTube partner...) then drive around with the kit for a few weeks. I'm more into performance scene than the "off road" scene. Thanks for the input!

If you really want a DayStar spacer kit, you can have mine for $50, I'll pay shipping. It's just sitting in my garage taking space.

It's the poly ComfortRide combo top spacer + preload spacer kit with the extended studs, top plate, and top nuts, model #KT09103BK. It'll give the AC about 2.5" of lift; the DC will see about 2".

One thing about this kit vs the aluminum/steel ones is that it is quiet.

I'll post up closeup pics of it tomorrow. Here's a pic of it when it was installed:

This is the kit from 4Wheel Parts' DayStar product page. They want $130 for the kit, retail:

I'd follow the advice of others here and do the levelling lift properly, and that means the front Bilstein 5100s. They're $200 for the set from AJUSA. Install costs + alignment will, of course, be a function of any suspension change.

Hey Remmy thanks for the offer! If I had the extra money right now I would jump on that right away. Unfortunately it's going to be about two weeks until I get paid. If you feel like you could wait that long for an answer please keep me in mind!

As for the front Bilstein 5100s, I have looked into them, and this just confirms my decision to go ahead and get them as soon as possible. At 108k miles, should I need to replace the shocks soon anyway?

Mine were shot at about 180k, but the guy I bought it from didn't replace them because he knew he was selling it soon for a new tundra.

I bought it at 229k miles and I replaced them at 250k ish

I would be looking into replacing those soon.

I installed the Daystar leveling kit on my Tundra about 2 years ago. I've put about 40K miles on the truck since the install (my truck has 98k total), and I have had no problems whatsoever with the Daystar leveling kit.

No breakage or weakening of anything? That's good to hear!

Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever have enough money left over from all the upkeep and replacing to get my front bumper repainted... oh well. I'd rather have a running truck than a nicely painted truck.

How hard is it to install this kit? What exactly will I have to do? It looks like I may be buying this from you lol.

1. Remove front coil assembly.
2. Compress the coil, unscrew the strut capture nut (save the nut and washer), and remove the top plate and coil isolator pad.
3. Place the DayStar kit (with top plate included) on top of coil and strut and reinstall washer and strut capture nut.
4. Repeat on other side.
5. Get an alignment to DJ's specs.

Do you have any pictures of your truck with the lift installed?

Yep. Same height. Note that I also have a 1" rear block as well.
How much can I get a set of those blocks for? Any brand you recommend over another?

Wheeler's Offroad has them. Add-a-leafs are about $78/set. Aluminum lift blocks are about $60/set.
Go wheelers on this one, they are a great sponsor for this forum. a 1" block will put you about between perfect level to up to .5" higher in the rear. Most likely perfect though.

also go with leafs over a block if you can. you still get the lift but are a bit more reliable than blocks and can help with axle wrap instead of hurt it like blocks
