I drained ATF from the pan today (just a simple drain and refill, no pan dropping). I noticed metal pieces, mostly sand grain size, but there were 2 or 3 bigger pieces (maybe steel-cut oats size) laying on the bottom of the drain pan. I used a magnet to test, but it didn't pick any of them up. Should I be concerned?

The 02 sequoia was brought used with 60K miles and I believe it still runs on the original ATF. The truck shifts fine, occasional high rev and kick when shifting from 1st to 2nd, and sometime a kick right after the brake was release. From what I read on this forum, both of these symptoms have been noted by other owners. The ATF came out dark red, but no burning smell or foam.

thanks in advance.

Non metallic particles are a source of concern. I would drop the pan and check it out. Replace with OEM gasket and if you have money to spare replace the magnets too.

Castrol MV Import ATF or OEM T-IV are suitable for the ATF.

Keep u posted and it will help if you could take pictures of the pan if you intend to drop.
