Navigation Voice Recognition doesn't work!

I've just bought my third Avalon, a 2007 XLS with Nav. When I press the button on the steering wheel, there's no beep and no recognition of voice commands. Any thoughts on how this works or is this a dealer service problem?

I took the car to the dealer and they got the switch in the steering wheel working. Unfortunately, the speech recognition is quite primative compared to my blue-tooth installation which uses IBM speech recognition technology. Unless someone has gotten added value from the navigation voice recognition, I'm thinking it's a looser. Has anyone gotten it working succesfully. Your thoughts appreciated.

Avalon Toyota Navi is Lame compared to my aftermarket in my Tundra Pioneer z1 with advanced voice rec. I find the Toyota system lacking feature's compared to like Honda/Acura which provide more bell's and features often Toyota unit's are SO outdated there primitively useless to some degree:td: :td: :td: :td: :td: ..
Have you used the console-mounted nav system controls to turn on, or activate, the voice command system? The voice recognition system may simply be turned off or the volume may be turned down so low you can't hear the nice lady working inside the dashboard.

If that isn't successful, take the car back to the dealer muy pronto.
