Putting together a complete system for my 2007 Tundra Crewmax and I am stumped on which subs to use. I am trying to decide between two JL 13TW5-3 slim 13.5" subs or two Alpine SWR-T12 slim 12" subs. The subs will be mounted in a custom enclosure behind my rear seat and powered by an Alpine PDX-M12 amp (1200 watts RMS). Promblem is that I've never heard either of the subs and have gone to numerous shops in my area to try to listen to both subs, but no shop (even the authorized retailers) has either sub hooked up in an enclosure for me to hear. Anyone out there hear either of these subs, or ideally both subs, so they can help guide me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

I have a single JL 13TW5 in my DC and I love it. I have it hooked up to a JL 500/1v2 and it sounds amazing. Very clean, tight bass... not too "boomy".

I actually have the Alpine SWR T12 in my truck, I have a double cab and it is in a .80 cubic foot sealed box under the back seat, I originally had a Pioneer shallow mount 12 and it sounded ok, but just wouldn't hit the low frequencies like I was hoping for, so I bit the bullet and got me a SWR T12 from sonic electronix, I have one MRP 500 pushing it and it sounds amazing, it is like night a day over the pioneer it does not struggle to go low and it will really pound. I have not heard the JL but have heard good things about it, but everything else in my truck is alpine, and I think they make good products, but I would not hesitate to reccomend the Alpine, and I only have 1 I can't imagine what 2 would sound like. Hope this helps

I haven't been able to listen to either of them installed in a vehicle. In a demo booth the JL's sound very boomy, but everyone said that mellows out with cabin gain. If I were to buy another shallow sub and couldn't get another SI BM MK3, I'd try the Alpines.

I am a big supporter and fan of Alpine... just downright good quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Prices are getting more and more competitive too which is nice. Normally I would say skip on the slims because they will lack a little but with a crewmax... you dont have much choice.

Good luck man... its going to sound gooood.

I have an 8" JL W3v3 in my truck and am happy with it. It is very clean and hits hard. Its not the same model as the JL you are considering, but its the best comparision I can give. It sounds like either way you are going to be happy.

Jumbo Jet - good to know. sound quality is more important than spl to me.
VWTim - i was actually waiting for the SI BM MK4's to come out, but not sure if i can wait.
Matt - like Loudy said, the kicker isn't in the same league as the jl or alpine offerings.

Spoke with Stereo Integrity and they said since it will be a while until the MK4's come out they reccommend the Alpine slim subs for now.

James at Tech12volts got an SI sub and built a box for me but there was something wrong with the sub, he got another one and it still didnt sound right to him. I'm going on 4 months on waiting and looking for that sub.

Did SI give any expected time frame of when they'll come out with the new mkIV?

just wondering why everyone is using slim subs for the crewmax? i had 3 10" jl w3's behind my crewmax and didnt lose almost no space. i put my box for sell here in the classifieds because i thought about running four tens because im stupid:D. is there any reason people are running the slim subs?
