I haven't been able to listen to either of them installed in a vehicle. In a demo booth the JL's sound very boomy, but everyone said that mellows out with cabin gain. If I were to buy another shallow sub and couldn't get another SI BM MK3, I'd try the Alpines.

Jumbo Jet - good to know. sound quality is more important than spl to me.
VWTim - i was actually waiting for the SI BM MK4's to come out, but not sure if i can wait.
Matt - like Loudy said, the kicker isn't in the same league as the jl or alpine offerings.

I agree, I waited like 5 months for my SI.
