I just got a 02 tundra with 3.4L v6 and the catalytic converter code p0420 going off. What is the best approach to fix problem?
1) replace catalytic converter
2) replace with some exhaust system (without making a ridiculous matchbox car sound)
3) don't worry about the light
I do believe the cat is bad bc it seems as though the truck is a bit sluggish and not driving right to me. This is my first toyota so I'm not sure if its me or not

Techs point of view.... Catalyst converters don't go bad... They are "murdered" means there is an issue with the engine... If is possible reset the ECM perform a drive cycle and when you get the "check engine light" troubleshoot the FIRST CODE FIRST and READ THE FREEZE FRAME to read the O2 sensors if you are getting too much fuel or too much oxygen pass the engine... Then you will know what really happen to the catalyst and what to do prior to replace the catalyst... Good luck!
