Thank you Texas DPS!!!!!

I received my license last week after about a 3 month wait. I just got the holster last night and I'm set to go!:D:cool: Crime has been going up in our area so I decided it was time to get one. I don't advocate violence! If the choice is between the safety of my family and a bad guy then I opt to protect my own. It sure was nice when our neighborhoods were quiet.

How bout Y'all? How long have you had it? Have you encountered any issues with carrying?

I'm envious BT-22, in "The People's Republic of Maryland" we coddle our criminals and make law-breakers of honest citizens. Personal protection is frowned upon when your state is run by hankie wringing liberals that will empty their bladder at the very mention of a.... GUN:eek:":censored:

Thanks Gutz & cmb. I was just watching the local news and some guy got a bullet to the head (from behind mind you) last night over an argument!

Beezwax, I wanted to but money was an issue. I was just able to do it. My Cuz got his and got me itching. Yeah, the good ole Valley. You been down here?

My hometown has just seen a big increase in crime, so I never really thought about it before. Add to the local stuff cross border violence (Mexico) spilling over and you have a big push for CHLs. My Cuz got his in 4 + months so I'm one of the lucky ones to get it in 3 months.

What PO's me the most it that there is a bunch more teen crime. These kids know they are only going to Juvee and they feel they have big balls. In a neighboring town some kid was hitting on a teen girl and her dad went after him with a bat to make him leave and got shot dead by the 15 yr. old kid. The guy that just got shot last night died over some stupid argument. To much chest thumping can get you killed!

I'm glad I live in a CHL state. Sorry to hear some of you guys can't carry. :td: Maybe once one of your local state politicians gets killed or their family hurt will they push for it. 'Til then stay safe!!!

Unless the GF (and you for that matter) is going to become and remain proficient with all the intricacies of a semi-auto (like clearing a jam under stress) , start with a wheel gun / revolver. Pretty much idiot-proof for the layman.

ya.. I use to work in refining as a Regional Hiring & Recruiting Manager for a Turnaround Contractor and hired Thousands of Scaffold Builders, Insulators/Metalmen and Blaster/Painters from Weslaco, Mission, Presidio, Pharr, Robstown, etc.... you name it.. I traveled there once a year for Turnaround season to do hiring locally for job up here in Texas City and Port Arthur

Awesome Beezwax. Do you still come down here? If you do, don't forget to take your mandatory bottle of Whiskey or Tequila. ;)

Just came back from Houston myself. I'll be going back and will be locked and loaded.

I second spenser24 on the lil lady. Not much kick/stun effect to deal with. I started my wife on a .22cal so she can get the hang of it. I'll probably move her to a .380 semi soon so she can carry as soon as possible. She's a little scared of guns. Imagine that!

I would rather a .40 but the ammo is pricey. I'll stick with my 9MM for now.

Yup, a good 38 is like a good tool that you keep for forever. You might swap semis out thru the years but you'll always hang on to the 38. :D

No CHL required in TX to carry a gun in your vehicle. Not any more. Still, a CHL is always worthwhile for when you need to get out of your vehicle, right? :)

Just renewing mine right now as it happens.

Beezwax,

If you still don't have a gun, you would probably benefit from a gun site like www.texaschlforum.com that has people asking these things all the time. It takes many considerations before buying, such as being left handed or not, caliber, accessory rail or not, how do you want to carry, recoil, weapon size and weight, cocked and locked or not, type of safety, night sights, single or double action, etc.
If you are not a member there already, go and sign up, some good and very knowledgeable people there. Personally, I carry either a Taurus PT111 Mil Pro or a CZ 2075 Rami, both of them are 9mm, loaded with Federal 124 gr hollow point. The CZ Rami is incredible accurate for a 3 in. barrel and shoots anything you feed it with no hiccups.

I hope this helps.
