I just got finished swapping my stock pads out for the performance friction carbon metallic pads on my tundra. Never in my life have I had an easier time changing the front pads as I just had with this truck. I've never been able to leave the calipers in place and just pull two pins out and bring the pads straight out the front of the caliper. Great job by toyota in designing something so simple to work on.

Hi H.R. Puffinstuff. :D

Yeep, when the dealer was replacing the seals on my Gen 1, they noted the front pads were worn and wanted to replace. Because this was on my dime and because I knew I could do this myself, I bought some OEM pads and did this in my garage. I agree with you....it took about the same amount of time to swap pads as it did
ing up the truck and removing the wheel. :D

I got them at O'reilly automotive for $56 + tax. They'll haul you down in a flash when you jump on the brakes however the front brakes really need stronger pistons.

Rear shoes are adjusted everytime you apply the parking brake and that happens everytime I park.

If you never use your parking brake your rear drum will never receive any kind of adjustment. They work fine as long as you use it regularly. I've been in vehicles where the primary driver never does this and yes you can feel the excessive travel before the shoes engage indicating that its way out of adjustment. I also have the shop manual for this truck and the clearance is supposed to be set at .5mm and properly working adjusters will do their thing if you use the parking brake regularly. I don't know what you have driven but all of mine that have had rear drums and working adjusters were always where they needed to be period regardless of brand.

Try the ECB green stuff 7000 series pads. They are great! I don't have to apply as much foot pressure to stop. The pedal feels firmer, no need to pump the pedal that second time. I second the keeping the rear drums adjusted properly, by hand! Any body try the porterfield carbon kevlar rear brake shoes? Are they any good?

Once the pads settled in they grab hella better than the stockers. My son commented on it when he drove it the other day for the first time since I swapped them.

Not to burst bubbles here, but I use my parking brake regularly on my 06 and have since new. My mechanic tightens up my brakes everytime he does an oil change on the rear. Nothing wrong with my brakes.
