Platinum rear suspension options

Has anyone out there in sequoia land upgraded or changed the suspension in their platinum on the rear?
I've lifted my sequoia about 2 inches, including adjusting the levers for free rear lift.
However, every morning when I go to work, the rear end is a touch lower than the night before, and the compressor always starts up first thing.
Seems like the bags or connections aren't holding air, so thinking replace the bags with a different setup like an aftermarket air bag or coils.
Any thoughts?

I would honestly stick with OEM Bags. They tend to last way longer than other bags from other manufacturers. (look at Land Rover, Mercedes, BMW, and etc) Get them inspected and checked for leaks. Also make sure your sensors are not going bad either.

Interested to see what you find out. I have had no luck finding an aftermarket that sells replacement bags. The OEM replacement bags for the platinum is $516 per side, that was the cheapest I found. Also, the electric adjustable shocks are $110 (front) and $411 (rear).
I replaced the electric shocks up front with non electric bilstein 5100.
I'm doing some digging to see what I can find out about alternatives to the rear.

This has definitely crossed my mind when I get to the point that I have to replace the rear air bags. Wonder how hard it is to switch to a SR5/Limited setup?

Attached below are some close-up photos of the SR5/Ltd coil-spring seats. Photos are of the passenger side. (Parts on the drivers side are identical except that the rear lower control arm is, of course, rotated 180 degrees.)

Looking at an online parts manual, it looks like the upper spring seat (part of the Rear #1 cross member of the frame) is identical with and without air suspension. (In the fourth photo below you can see that the passageway for the line going to the top of the air cylinder is present on an SR5.)

The rear lower control arms have different part numbers for SR5/Ltd (48730-09040) and Platinum (48730-09010). A key question is what is the difference and is it significant enough to preclude the Platinum rear lower control arm from accepting a coil spring?

Take a look at your platinum parts and see if there is any visible difference. One important feature that can be seen in the photos below is the "budge" protruding down from the far side of the lower control arm. This budge is where the bottom end of the coil spring terminates. (The end of the coil spring is keyed into this budge so that it is effectively restrained from rotating.) If the platinum rear lower control arm doesn't have this bulge I would guess that it wouldn't accept the springs from an SR5/Ltd. You would have to also swap out the rear lower control arm.

Below I have attached another passenger-side SR5/Ltd photo from a thread by RinconVTR http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/sequoia/143820-sequoia-gen2-rear-spring-spacer-diy/#post1611515. This shows how the lower end of the OEM coil spring tapers down in diameter and terminates by wrapping around the center post in the lower control arm.

In minutes 0:46 to 1:05 of this YouTube video
you can see a side view of the Platinum rear lower control arms, but not their underside. The lower bulge that retains the end of the coil spring on an SR5/Ltd is not seen. Thus it appears that the Platinum rear lower control arms would not accept a coil spring from an SR5/Ltd. I'm guessing that the answer will be that to convert a Platinum to coil springs you would need to consider options such as:

1) Replace both the coil springs and rear lower control arms by OEM parts for an SR5/Ltd.

or,

2) Procure custom coil springs with lower ends that properly interface with the contours of the rear lower control arms on a Platinum.

or,

3) Fabricate custom coil spring spacers with bottom surfaces that conform to the shape to the rear lower control arms on a Platinum and upper surfaces that conform to the shape of the rear lower control arms on an SR5/Ltd. That would allow use of OEM SR5/Ltd coil springs and provide some level of rear lift.

Has anyone crawled under the back of their Platinum to see whether they agree with this preliminary conclusion? A comparison picture showing the features on the underside of the Platinum rear lower control arm would be helpful.

Haven't been able to get under the Sequoia to look but I remember from when I started thinking of getting limited springs to change out the rear that the "cup" for the top of the spring has a different part# between the Platinum and non-Platinum. I didn't even think to look at the lower control arms. I guess that's more stuff to scavenging for.
Any conclusions on this? Everything i find on the topic is from 2016 and later. Has anyone sucessfully Swapped the platinum rear air suspension out?

Thank you
The platinum rear lower arm with air inside base is flat and a little deeper than the arms with no air also the non air arms have a notch for the springs to lock into. The top bucket is the same the spring under bucket. I have no lights on. I did run the rear arm with air with coil springs with a air to coil spring conversion but my rear did sag because of the air arm being deeper. With air suspension the bag suspension is taller it also has a spacer. Thats why my rear would sag.

This is a pic of the rear sagging. I was using the rear air arm with lifted rear spring 1.75

This is with the non air arm.

awesome work and the rig looks sick. I'm in the same boat. I have a 08 platinum and just picked up the 3" toytec lift kit to go from air to coils. My question is you said you have no dash lights on.. would you be able to help me out on how you achieve this? Did you pull out the underhood fuses for the air pump or any fuses under the dash. Also did you complete rip out the pump too? or leave it in? Did you disconnect the connector that goes behind the air suspension switch? Mechanically I can figure how to install the new suspension where I'm lost is how to not get any light errors on my dash when im driving. any input would greatly appreciated.

I still have all my air suspension components it jus stays at Neutral. Are u having error codes??

@Yotadriver706 Great share, thanks! I have a stock 2008 Platinum that I want to change to springs and keep around the same stock height. From what I can see I need the SR5 lower control arms and springs. Is there any need for the spring insulator or stopper?

So my buddy and I successfully installed the toytec 3" lift on a platinum. Disclaimer the only thing you will get is the small air ride manual light that flashes. (its not that bad Ill probably just take out the led or put a photo over it. The reason @Yotadriver706 didnt have any lights on his dash was because he is still using his stock air ride with his lift. We are not...

How we switch from air to coils. Is the bags will need to come out along with the bags LCA.

The only OEM parts you need to get is the spring insulator and spring LCA from an SR5 or Limited. To save a few bucks we ended up going to Rockauto for the aftermarket LCA and they work just fine. Its what ~$80 vs ~$250 OEM a part.

If you plan on keeping the stock height with OEM coils then it would probably be best to try to get the matching sr5/limited struts. You may be able to get away with the electronic control platinum struts but I never tested it out. I think it just adjusted dampening.

Then just bring it to a good alignment place and you should be good. It really isn't that hard to do the conversion from air to coils. There's just not enough information in the forums about it. If your scared or bother by the thought of the air ride manual light flashing on your dash then simply don't do it. Do this at your own discretion. anyways I hope this helps you or anyone else reading this.

Here some shots of our platinum from air to coil toytec 3" lift after we got it done. We also added airlift 1000 since we tow a boat.

It rides great too. Not too stiff and not to soft. Now we just need to get wheels and tires and we good to go. We've had a few miles on it now and has leveled out. The plan is also to get some aftermarket UCA so that we can clear 35s.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I do have the LCA in my cart on rockauto ready to buy just trying to source the springs and spring insulator. For the springs I'm looking at the Dobinson Rear Coil Spring that is a 45mm lift, hoping this will give me a slight rake, might need a slight leveling shim in the future. Looks like I'll have to go to the dealer for the spring insulator, I can't find one anywhere else. I'll keep this thread updated with my progress. Thanks for the help!
@rat206 I really like that roof rack. Can you let me know who makes it and what model? Thanks,
