Have a locally recommended shop quote around $300 to change plugs. Any idea why it's so high?

8 plugs at $10 a piece = $80, 5 min per plug = 40min. Shop mark up on plugs 100%, hourly rate = $140/hr. Pending on where you live, hourly rate could be $100-180/hr.
Do the job yourself, it's easy

If I was home and had my tools I would.....thanks.
I mean for about $40 you can swing by a Harbor Freight and buy a tool set with everything you need, then just keep it in the truck.
Off the top of my head all you really need is a ratchet, 6" extension, 5/8 plug socket, and a 10mm socket.
