I have a 2005 Sequoia and the rear window won't roll down. I tried operating from the hatch, dash and key fob, as well as made sure the windows were unlocked. Anyone else have a problem with their rear window? Looks like a trip to the dealer.

Does your rear windshield wiper still work? Does your rear defogger still work??

 

I had that problem once after I had the battery disconnected. Actually, I noticed my rear wiper wasn't working and then I realized my rear window wasn't either. I got my multimeter out, checked a bunch of fuses, and jiggled the rear wiper.

To my surprise mine started working again in the middle of my troubleshooting (so I have no idea if I did something or if it was coincidence.) If you figure out what gets yours going please do share.

Yeah, If that rear wiper is not in it's proper resting place the rear window won't work and your rear defogger won't work either witch is connected to your heats side views. I also read that if you disconnect the battery you have to push and hold the rear window button to make the window go down and hold it pushed for an extra 10 seconds. Then do the same going up, Push the up button and hold it for an extra ten seconds once the window is all the way up. This resets something with the rear window. I read about it somewhere on this site.

I just wish Toyota put the heated side view mirrors on it's own button instead of having it on the same switch as the rear defogger. I put the darkest tint you can find over the factory tint on my rear window so I don't look out it much wile driving because you can't see much threw it any way. So, I never use the rear wiper either. I depend on my side view mirrors and my back up camera for everything. So, the heated side view mirrors are VERY important to me but, I don't need the rear defoggers on at all. My Highlander has a separate switch for the heated mirrors, I wish they did the same for the Sequoia's. Johnnny

 

Rear wipers not working either. I'm going to look up fuse locations to see if it is the fuse. Hopefully it's the fuse; don't relay wnat to lose a day bringing it to the dealership.

Rear Wiper/Washer - Check 7.5A ECU-B, 10A ECU-IG and 25A WSH

Rear Window - Check 30A Pwr No 5

 

Checked all the fuses and none were bad. Took it to the dealership today and they diagnosed that the rear window motor was bad, which was also causing the rear wiper to not work (I guess they are connected somehow so as to avoid running the wipers when the window is down).

They'll have the part on Friday and said it will take 1 1/2 hours to replace. Unfortunate failure since I've only got 12K miles on the Sequoia. But, the weather has finally changed in Florida and I look forward to driving with the windows down.

 

Had the same problem and diagnosis about 2 months ago with less than 7,000 miles on my 05. Consider yourself lucky; it took them 3 weeks to get the part for mine.

 

I also have a dead rear window motor in my '02 Seq w/50k miles, but my rear wiper still works fine.

 

I had the same problem with my 02 Sequoia. I opened the rear hatch remove the inner molding and cover and actually tested the motor, which had failed. Yours is probably still under warranty, but to save me the hassle of going to the dealer, I purchased a rear window motor from a 01 4Runner on Ebay for $9.99. I have not heard of the rear windows failing on them, so I figured it was more reliable. It uses the same type of motor, just with a shorter motor housing to lessen the change of moisture entering the unit. Replaced it in about 30 minutes and it works great.

 

after 9 months of sporadic operation of the rear window, it finally wouldn't do anything. at least it failed in the closed position. Dealer replaced the "binding motor" under warranty at 24K miles and so far its working as required.

 

Brought Sequoia in yesterday (12K miles) to have the rear tailgate window motor replaced (Part# 85710-0C070). Although I'm pleased it was covered under warranty, I was wondering how many Sequoia owners with over 50K miles still have an operable rear window versus those that don't? I have a Ford Expedition with 220K miles and the rear wiper motor went out on it after 40K miles, I just never bothered to get it fixed since I'm at the gas station about every other day and clean the window there. :-(

 

Sorry to revive the old thread, but...

Sequoiapower, how long have you had the 4Runner rear window motor in your Seq, and how is it working out? Does the motor strain trying to get the Seq rear window back up? I know there's more glass back there than on the 4Runner.

I also have an '02 with a dead rear window motor, and I miss being able to open the rear window. The dealer said new motors were at least several hundred dollars, though. I forgot exactly what they quoted. I will definately be replacing it myself as opposed to paying shop rate for labor.

I know how you're feeling. Although I'm glad I got mine replaced under warranty, I certainly don't like the idea of having it go bad after warranty. I, too, love having the ability to roll down the back window. While everyone else is shoveling snow up north, I was driving yesterday in Sarasota with all five windows open (74 degrees). The nice thing about TS Forums is we'll have the ability to do the repair ourselves when the time comes.

I have had the 4Runner rear window motor in for about 5 months now and it works great. There is no strain trying to get the Seq rear window back up at all.

I would definitely stay away from the dealer doing it. You could actually try looking for a Camry power window motor or a newer 4runner motor. Good luck.

You think the Camry motor would work? Some of the pics I'm seeing for the Camry motors on eBay show a cable-type regulator system, as opposed to an arm/lever with gear teeth.

Which type does the Sequoia use? If it's a gear type, how many teeth are on the gear on the motor? Some of the other motor pics I saw had a gear with 7 teeth.

Took my 05 Seqouia to the dealer today for the same problem. Also when the window does not work the rear wiper does not work either. They had to replace the motor and the ECU. Thank goodness it was still under warranty!

 

I had the rear window dead for 2 years.
It started off intermittent.
It would work on some days and others it would not.
I suspected it was short in the system or a bad window motor.

After a few months it just stopped working.
I was out of warranty I left it alone. Did not use the rear window all that much anyhow.

THEN!!!!
I read the TSB about it.
And after 2 years well possibly 3..... THE WINDOW WORKS NOW.!!!
I simply removed the Spring and bracket as mentioned in the TSB.
Its been 2 weeks now and Not a Problem.
Who would have guessed?

Anyhow, for those of you with similar troubles try to remove the spring and bracket.
Its easy and quick.
Only took me about 20 min.
To remove and replace everything.

 

Well that 4Runner motor looks just like the Sequoia from the pictures. I might go for that. I took my motor apart and found the brushes were broken. I may have done that though removing the cover.

 

TSB EL007-06, covering '01-'06 Sequoia rear hatch window repair.
It mentions to leave a couple part out when replacing the motor.
My stopped working while it was still under 36 month warranty and I took it in with a copy of TSB.
It has been working since the motor was replaced and reassembled using TSB. Andy

 

I have the same problem, Dealer have to pay full of cost for replacement.

 

I found a replacement from a salvaged one. The motors definitely look like the side window motors which lends me to beleive they are being "overtasked" for the larger back window, thus prematurely failing. Just a theory though.

 

I took my 05 Sequoia to the dealer for the back window. The back defrost would not work and we couldn't get the window to go down. The service manager tried to open the window and it wouldn't work. It was there overnight and in the morning they were able to get it to open and close. He said since it was now working they couldn't replace it since it wasn't stuck in the closed position. It was only covered by warranty if it didn't work at all, not if it was only broke sometimes. I have had a problem with it since I purchased my car. Do I have any options?

 

'02 with 55k miles. Rear window was dead as a doornail, and the fix described above worked perfectly, and took about 20 minutes. Pull out 2 screws and the stop and it works great now!
