hey i recently did the 3'' toy tec lift with the bilsteins 5100's and i must say wow what a difference in ride with the shocks !!! i love them even only having them for a few days, the 3'' toy tec lift tho love the stance but its kinda cheap and the 1/2'' strut spacers barely even fit with the kit and the coil spacer barley fit, had to reuse the ubolt for the AAl which every thing sucked cause it was all rusted to **** b for the install , but all in all i love them together, like the height but now want higher !! 305 55 20's go on tomo !!! will post pics tomo !!!!

oh yea and the bestest thing i bought. . . . . . brand new trd headers off ebay for $430 !!!!
Exhaust Headers - 4.7L V8 PTR16-34000-10

anyone have these ??? i have read grrreat things about there quality here on some posts

This setup makes no sense. Am I missing something here?

You have the adjustable Bilstein 5100s that allow you to set up to approx 2.5" of lift but you decided to ignore this design benefit and jam in coil spacers? :confuseda: What you have done is remove the capability of your shocks to slow excessive downtravel, which, if not contained, puts enormous stress on the ball joints. The simple act of driving too fast over parking lot speed bumps can fracture one or more of your ball joints when the suspension drops out.

Does sound strange, lost me in translation. :confuseda:

Not stupid. Just learning like the rest of us!

Don't worry. It'll be OK until you get it properly set up. Just be careful going over dips and bumps, especially those short "parking lot-type" speed bumps. We just don't want you to do any damage to your vehicle! ;)

You can remove the entire coilover assemblies yourself (and ditch the top spacers), but will need a coil compressor to remove the preload spacers and reinstall the coil spring perch at a different setting. I suggest taking them back to the shop that originally did the work, have them compress the coils, slide up the spring perches, and re-lay the coil. You can then take them home and reinstall.

ok so i am gonna get the 5100's adjusted correctly but will a shop do it for me ? a Goodyear or Monroe or even private mechanic ??? i dont have the skill or the proper tools to do it my self if i did i would definitely do it ! but can the 5100's b adjusted after there set ??? im not to sure even tho i cant see why it couldn't b done . . . . ugh mad at my self i was sooo hooked on being 3'' higher that i got greedy and wanted only that . . . reasoning why i did it this way but this is a learning process even tho an expensive one . . . . . ugh

If you have your 5100 at the lowest setting (bottom notch) with the 3" Toytec spacers you should be fine. You might want to look into the diff. drop if you're 4WD

As was posted earlier, a coil spacer on top of the adjustable Bilstein 5100s is a bass-ackwards install. It's like buying mudders but cutting the lugs off because you really needed street tires. Just doesn't make a whole lotta sense.

thats what i was thinking peterfar, i mean im running them as stock recplacements , but that again there allowed to b lifted so i unde stand y the others r saying why have the coil spacer, i also hav the diff drop too with 1.5'' aal so no worries there . . . still had to trim a bit for the 305's will post pics when clean , im wanting to realy 2 do a 3'' body !!

yea ,yea ,yea , i know i know but its not that bad to go off and use that type of analogy !! you live you learn when lifting !! i can see if i stacked both and was fighting on the matter that i don't have anything to worry about and wont hav any problem what so ever !! but that's not the case and for getting mudders then cuttin the lugs cause u needed radials wtf that just stupid , u should of gotten an aggressive all terrain either pro comps ,coopers, nittos, ss-m16's etc . . ! haha

What if he was going from a nonTRD and wanted bilsteins??? This way you get the performance from the shock and the full 3" of lift from the spacer. Its nothing like buying Muds and cutting the lugs off.

OK, simile eludes you - and you missed the point entirely.

He clearly stated he wants LIFT, and purchased the 5100s. It doesn't matter what his previous suspension configuration was, TRD or not. Why would you suggest that he throw away the benefit he PAID for?

Coil spacers are a lower-performing lift model than a shock body allowed its full travel capabilities. They allow the suspension components to droop beyond the help of the shock's ability to reduce it. It therefore puts his ball joints at risk due to impact from excessive downtravel because they become the limiting component. That's just a physical fact.

He will not "...get the performance from the shock..." with the coil spacers, especially 3" spacers, as you suggest, and the OP should be clearly aware of that. I have the DayStar 2.5" front coilover spacer lift on my Tundra; I know what I'm talking about.

To the OP: I strongly urge you to do more research here on lifts, especially this writeup done by DevinSixtySeven. :tu:

So are you saying that putting the 3" spacer on a stock shock is the same as putting it on the 5100's at bottom notch? I'm not trying to say what he did was the best way to lift a truck but it does work. There is no need to change the set up now if its all said and done.

Peterk post some pics when you clean the truck up.

That's part of my point. Remember the OP's original intent: lift. I'm also adding that you don't have to have a sub-par setup if you have the 5100s installed. If his intent was to use spacers and not use the adjustable capabilities on the 5100s, why did he pay $200 for them when he could have just replaced the stock shocks with the cheapest Ranchos he could find and then jam the spacers in there?

I'm not trying to say what he did was the best way to lift a truck but it does work. There is no need to change the set up now if its all said and done.
That's a lazy man's way to look at it. It should be done right. He has already invested the $$$, so he should capture the benefit.

And I'm tired of :deadhorse: I've said all I can here. :usa2:
