Recirculating air button turns off by itself

Borrowed my buddies 08 doublecab Tundra the other day, drove it on a 400 mile roadtrip and noticed one thing, the recirculating air button would turn itself off every 3 minutes. with the vent off, a/c off, everyting off, we would want the air to recirculate (i.e. NO FRESH AIR FROM OUTSIDE) and it would keep letting fresh air in. Anyone know why this happens? Its a not so great feature when your driving by cattle ranches, and its FREEZING OUTSIDE.

Re: Recirculating air button turns off by itself

the recirculating air button would turn itself off every 3 minutes.
You mean turn itself on? I haven't taken mine in, but they say that it is an option that can be changed in software. I really hate this "feature", I can't figure out why it always wants cold air in the cabin (because it only does it when the outside temp is below 50)

Hold the button in for 3 seconds and it stays on.
That's what the manual tells you to do anyway... It doesn't work. (at least in my truck anyway)

All newer vehicles do it... I think it's a safety feature for toxic fumes(i.e carbon monoxide)... Supposedly most can actually detect the fumes, and switch to recirc when gasses are detected from the outside... I believe it opens fresh air ever so often to circulate used air for fresh and to rid of any toxic gasses in the cab...

I also think it helps with funky smells or mildew build up in the AC system...

I had the dealer shut off they feature, no charge...you could too, see the attached PDF.

BTW, you really should have searched 1st, we've covered this topic dozens of times...but no harm, just keep it in mind for next time.:ts:

I was able to get the "hold for three seconds" feature to work once on my 08' but never again.
try this, when you start the truck and the recirculation button is off (fresh air coming in) make sure to turn on the heater first before holding the button for atleast 5 sec. it works on my '08, even i turn off the heater after few minutes the light stays on until i turn off the engine.
