Well yesterday my 2001 V8 Limited Tundra's ABS Control Unit decided to almost catch on fire when I reconnected the battery. I heard something like the motor turn on, then smoke, then a burst of flame. I quickly disconnected the battery.

Here's the model info

Here's the damage to the onboard connector. Pin 25 is a little wobbly.

The hole where the jet of sparks came out of.

I've had no luck at taking it apart more and seeing if there is a PC board in there. I know that there are replacement parts on ebay. There is a newer model 89541-0C040 toyota says is the replacement for this one. What I wondering is if I can just put the newer model Control Unit onto the existing motor housing? Or will I need to replumb everything. Which I'm trying to avoid. Thanks.

Nope I replaced it with the next model controller -0C040 and still cannot connect to the abs computer with techstream. ABS light stays in brakes work like normal, haven't had a chance to test if abs still work, I'm assuming not. I'm using the cheap ebay dongle. I can connect to the ECU and SRS. I'm hoping the wires didt fry too will have to check the electrical. From what I was reading you need to replace with an exact ABS unit. That very well could be the problem. I could not find the exact ebay at the time.

No to the reverse polarity. My keys were still in ignition in the ACC or ON position when hooked up the battery. That was the mistake. I had the battery disconnected and charging at 30 amps with smart charger because it was dead. Came back in 6-8 hours forgot keys were still in ignition. The fuses don't look blown. Checked good continuity.
