Replacing lights in Sequoia interior

A lot of my dash and interior bulbs are burned out (2005 Sequoia limited) and I'm wondering about parts required and best techniques for accessing the bulbs.
-Driver's side heated seat indicator light is burned out
-no lights behind any of the 4x4 controls (diff lock, 4x4 on/off)
-no lights behind the mirror adjustment (mirror angle adjust, fold down, etc).

I know that there should be a light in the heated seat switch, but the 4x4 controls and mirror adjustments are completely black and I'm not sure if they even have bulbs behind them. Thanks for any info!

thanks for the reply bigd9! I guess my biggest question is whether there is supposed to be illumination behind the 4wd controls and the mirror adjustment/power folding switches.
They've been dark since I got the vehicle and I'm not sure whether those switches even support lights to be burnt out!

I have a 2005 and there are no lights on the mirror controls or 4x4 controls. My heated seat lights still work, but I'm sure I'm on borrowed time;-) Let us know if you figure out a way to change the light inside the switch...
Hey Taiko, FYI there are lights behind the 4x4 control buttons. I just couldn't see them during the day. Sorry for the mix-up.

wow. thanks SteveInCal and czechm8. I'm in the same boat as BigD9- now I have to replace the 4x4 array bulbs too. What's the best way to get behind the center stack...do I have to pull the whole dash? Hate it when that happens :) hopefully there will be an easy replace technique.

In other notes, I'm excited as I've been working on lots of other mods. I've got the Tundra foglight switch (84160-0C010) on order and will be adding a bullbar (well, should really say -pushbar, similar to the westin) with PIAA 520s on it controlled by the Tundra switch (in addition to the limited fogs).

I got the truflow intake installed and I'm not pulling any more codes which is nice. I'm happy with the torque improvement from that.

I'm still thinking about getting a magnaflow muffler put in, and especially keep thinking about the jba headers. probably not this season but maybe during the summer.

I'll post pics when I install the secondary fogs (prob in January).

thanks for any tips on the 4x4 light replacement.

Taking the center stack out is easy. Push the two air vents all the way up to reveal a screw on each. Remove the two screws and then firmly grab the housing where the two screw slots are and pull straight out. The whole thing will just snap out. Disconnect the 4 wiring connectors at the bottom and you can remove it. Don't worry about remembering how the 4 connectors go back in - they are all different sizes so it's pretty fool-proof. You will have to reset your clock when you put it back together.

I run the Magnaflow 15808 cat-back kit on my '05 Sequoia and I like it. I recently had mine replaced under warranty after 80K miles. (the muffler came apart at one seam) They replaced it with brand new-no questions asked. Just had to pay for installation.

The new kit is a rear exit - even though their site shows a side exit (like my old one). This is a better setup because the resonator is bigger on this new kit and helps with the drone I used to get at around 1700 RPM. They have great service and I wouldn't hesitate to go with Magnaflow again.

Thanks for the tips on removing the dash czechm8! Very much appreciated.
I also greatly enjoyed reading your magnaflow catback review. I have been thinking about it seriously...although I have also thought about just replacing the muffler, I may go the entire catback route. I love magnaflow and have a setup on my 4runner, I'm very pleased.
Are you also running the jba headers?

Looking forward to getting those pesky lights replaced. I wonder what size goes on the 4x4 stack behind the dash. Guess I'll have to pull it to find out. I'll post pics

I found a nice dyno chart for the Magnaflow 15808 on a Sequoia (see attached). It's looking better all the time.

The best price I've found so far is at amazon for $527 w/free shipping. If there is better out there I'd be grateful for any leads. Thanks so much.

Planning on pulling the dash this evening and finding out what kind of bulbs go behind the 4x4 switch cluster. Bringing the camera out.

Did some exploring on the Sequoia this fine evening.
Removed the dash (thanks for the great tips czechm8!).
Looks like the bulbs are removable. I'm not sure what type of bulb this is...any advice appreciated. I love how easy this dash is to remove. Will make things easier when the double DIN gets replaced with a GPS nav hopefully soon :) thanks again

Success!
Last night I installed LED backlight part NEO3-G in both L and R heated switches and it works perfectly. They are very bright now (green, although you can choose from a wide array of colors here.
To top it off, I installed two LEDs, part NEO4-G in the upper panel (homelink) and they look amazing. I will order three more to complete the homelink.
I am still looking for the bulb type to fit behind the main dash (4x4 control cluster).
Pics attached.

Great information, Taiko. My heated seat switches glow different colors on the high and low settings. Do the two different colors come from two separate bulbs in each switch, or just different color lenses over one bulb? Keep us posted on the 4x4 cluster. So far, all of my bulbs are working, but at 103,000 miles, I doubt they'll work much longer...

Thanks for the kind words SteveInCal! The LEDs replace the green backlighting on the heated seat switches that comes on whenever the headlights are active. (The backlights glow green regardless of whether the heated seats are actually activated, or not). The HI and LO switches still glow orange and emerald green, respectively when activated.
The backlight bulb is easy to replace and you don't have to remove the rocker to do so (access on the side). If either of the inner (HI LO) lights were to blow, it would be more difficult to change those. For kicks and giggles I tried disassembling the entire switch however the rocker was challenging to remove without forcing and I didn't want to risk breaking it as it's still fully functional so far.

Hey thanks for the kind words BigD9! It's kind of a holiday project for me to get all of these lights replaced.

- I realized that my glovebox light is out too, any ideas on what that requires?

-Re: dash lights behind the 4x4 cluster are "TYPE 74" lights that are giving me trouble. I replaced the lights inside the OEM housings, but TYPE 74 stretched the housing so that it no longer fits in the circuit board. LED NEO5-Gs fit, but I can't get them to "turn" inside the board to give a solid connection. Any thoughts, original part #s, etc appreciated. see pics

OK, I think that I may have found the answer to the LED type for the center dash. If my calculations are correct, it may be the T1.5 LED Twist Lock Lamp. I'm going to order these along with the additional 3 NEO4-Gs that I need for the homelink.

Last thing I'd appreciate are the specs for the glovebox light. I'll try that in LED too.

PS. This PDF file is in 3d. Once you open the PDF, you can drag the object in realtime and see from all sides. Cool tech, first time I've seen that embedded in a PDF.

Darn you will you stop that? First I get into my Sequoia tonight to take my Granddaughter home after a day of sledding, and because of you I look up at the Home Link and what do you know, two lights were not working. On the way back I glance up and one of the lights wasn't completely blown, but every time I hit a small bump it went out and on again. Now you made me curious about the glove box and what do you know, it doesn't work either. The lights in my seat heater switches do work.

Question. I noticed the Home link lights (the ones still working) dim with the dashboard dimmer control. Do the LED's dim?

Hi BigD9! Hope the sledding went great! Good to know some of your lights went out too... it seems to be quite common in the Sequoia...maybe because these lights are such a PAIN to replace!
Speaking of pains, I checked out the glove box last night. Started to try and get the light "basket" out without removing the glovebox, but it's a PITA. Definitely remove the glovebox first.
(see pics). Once removed, just wedge yourself onto the ground between the seats and under the glove box and remove the basket. I couldn't do it by hand and needed some needlenose pliers. I'll try some LEDS and post my results. Season's Greetings to 1st-gen Sequoia forum and thanks for all your help this past year! Looking forward to even more mods and solutions.

Another light in the Sequoia is the "entrance light" or courtesy light, that turns on when the door is opened. It's near the driver's side kick panel.
I can only find the one on the driver's side so far.
I took some pictures of it and it seems really hard to access. It's attached directly to wiring and is mounted in a metal bracket...I'm a bit reluctant to mess with it and wonder if anyone has replaced this one. Is there something like this on the passenger side too? I can't find it (or else it's just burned out).

Another question (figured I'd ask seeing as I've got space for some more attachments) is that the car lighter adapter cover has broken off. Any thoughts for a good way to cover this up (either with the original part, or with a creative alternative) would be great.
