I just bought a 2006 Silver Metalic Tundra DC 4x4. It has some rock chips that are down to the metal and have rust.

Do I need to get rid of the rust before using touch-up paint on them? If so, what do I use to get rid of the rust?

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

How bout a dremel tool with a wire brush attachment or other grinding tools depending on the size of the chip. I wouldn't paint over that rust.

While I have not used this item, a person I respect as a detailer posted it up over at one of the detailing boards I visit.

Harbor Freight Tools

You might try to use something like that. Or you could cut some high-grit wetsanding paper to put on a pencil eraser and use that to prep the spot for touch up.

Also, you may want to look into something like the Dr. Colorchip system. It looks like it works well, and for someone who is not comfortable or patient enough to build up the touch up area over a few days and then wetsand it down to the level of the surrounding area, it might be a great product.
